"What are you doing?"

He straightens and removes the mask from his face. He placed it back on when the doctor arrived, but the whole time I was inside his room, he kept the pressure on my fingers with the towel, and I kept my eyes closed.

"I'm going to take a shower, and then I'm going to bed with my wife," he replies curtly, walking away.

After twenty minutes, I see him pad his way in from his bathroom, which I noticed has no door. I'm not going to lie and say I didn't want to see what he looked like without his clothes on because I do. He is always covered except for his neck and hands.

I couldn't see him in the shower from the bed. All I could do was hear the sound of the water from the shower as it hit the tiled floor. It sounded peaceful, like rain.

I snuggle deeper in the mattress, holding the sheet up to my neck because I'm completely naked. He hasn't said a word about the elephant in the room, and I'm grateful. It's not something I want to talk about right now.

All I want to do is watch him as he walks around his room with a black towel around his waist, dripping wet from a shower. He has a raised red scar that runs down his chest to the side of his ribs, disappearing in a swirl of inked demons tattooed on his skin.

The other side has scriptures and clouds with his last name wrapped around in a cross. His skin reminds me of a black-and-white art book. Books are hard to come by on the island. The ones I have been able to buy were from Ethan. He said people on the mainland hold on to them and sell them. Like banned items being sold on the black market.

The judges banned anything printed because it was detrimental to the planet. Digitizing information was beneficial, but the purpose was to control what information could be read. Also, making it expensive to get.

Killian presses one of the panels, and it opens. I’m amazed at the advanced technology in his house. I also notice that no one cleans, but the floors remain spotless.

"How come the floors don't get dirty?"

He turns, giving me a side profile of his face, and I notice his mouth lifting in a grin when he drops the towel, showing me his perfect ass. My body grows hot, and I'm hoping the screen by the bed doesn't detect my body's temperature.

"Because they don't need to be."

"How is that possible? You need to press a button, or someone needs to come clean them. Sanitize them."

He slides on a pair of tight boxer briefs that mold to his strong thighs and narrow hips. When he turns around to face me, my eyes immediately travel south to the huge bulge between his legs.Okay, he's huge.

"Not this house. I designed it that way. The floors are equipped with a technology that steams, sanitizes, and cleans themselves. It saves time and money. I'm not the type to hire people to clean floors with chemicals the judges make money on because they ensure they are safe for the planet."

"You don’t agree with them?"

"I don't follow their vision."

Hm. Killian doesn't like authority. It makes sense, but I also gauge that he's smart as hell. Genius-level smart.

"Did you create it? Just like the boat?"

He pulls the sheet gently, and I lift my hands, feeling the cold air caress my skin.

His eyes roam my naked body, and a flush creeps up my cheeks. "Holy shit," he mutters. My eyes lift when he slides into the bed, automatically feeling the warmth from his body.

We face each other, and he pulls the sheet over my shoulder, making sure I'm comfortable. I keep my hands together so the cuts don't open under the gauze.

"Yes. That’s what I do."

"What is that exactly?"

"I create new technology, but I also create the kind the government cannot control. Freedom."

I swallow thickly because that means he's a god to the antichrist. Now, it makes sense. That is why he hides out here in his dark estate.

"What do you like to do?" he asks. I bite my lip as I think about it. No one has ever asked me that question. He slowly pulls my bottom lip away from my teeth with his thumb. "Don't bite that pretty skin, gorgeous."

My heart begins to beat faster, and my stomach flutters when he calls me gorgeous. It means more for some reason when he says it, making me forget how mean he was to me earlier.

"I like to read books."
