"What do you want?" I ask.

He's here for something, and it isn't a family reunion.

"I want the technology. The blueprint of all of his technological designs. It will make me rich. Very rich. It's about time the world is introduced to what he's created and controls. Not some stupid kid so in love that he is willing to die for her. What a waste of talent."

I close my eyes. The barcode. Killian said it's a blueprint. At first, I thought he meant his estate. His parents' accounts are like an inheritance, but it's much more than that. That is what they were after when my father killed his parents. They wanted the blueprint, but it's on Killian's body. His eye. The barcode is the key. He's the key to everything.

"You won't get away with it. If you kill me, you get nothing."

"I get a grandson."

My eyes widen in terror. "Leave my son out of it."

"Why, Lillith...? He's my grandson."

Ciro glares at my father. "Where's Killian?"

"I'll give you what you want, but you must take me to Killian first. If something happens to him… to any of us, you get nothing," I say, trying to muster sternness.

"That works." My father sniggers. "It's too easy."

He shoves me toward the house, and I fumble, trying to find my footing. I look back, making sure Ciro holds Niro tight. He nods silently, telling me he has Niro. I know Ciro would die protecting him.

When we enter the house, it's dark with a solemn presence. Is Agnes alright? I know the rest of the staff aren't here at night, but Agnes lives here.

"His office," my father says with the weapon aimed at my head. I take the next left, staring fiercely down the hallway to the door that leads to Killian's office.

When we reached the room, I begin to breathe raggedly. Killian clutches his arm because my father shot his arm almost clear off. Agnes lies on the floor. I don’t see anything wrong with her, but I figured she was hit trying to help Killian and got knocked out.

"Killian!" I cry out.

Ciro runs into the room, and I shake my head frantically. "Go!" I mouth to Ciro, trying to tell him to take Niro.

His eyes widen, telling me he isn't leaving me, but my eyes plead with him to take my son to safety. When my father steps farther into the room, Ciro steps back, and I slam my hand on the button to shut the door with us in it.

My father swings the weapon, hitting me across the face. "You bitch!" Pain radiates across my face like I was hit with a metal beam.

"I'm going to k-kill…you," Killian gasps, clutching his arm, trying to stop the bleeding. His body is doubled over. His mask is half off his face.

"I doubt that," my father mocks. "I think you would need two arms, and you currently have one and a half."

"You bastard," I seethe. Angry tears slide down my cheeks.

"Funny how you're defending a man who agreed to kill you after you gave him a son. The way you defend him is touching. I thought you would be repulsed, but you're just like your weak whore of a mother. Cares too much. It gets you killed. I told her to get rid of you when the doctors told her she was risking her life, but she wouldn't have it. Then, at the fundraiser, the most eligible and good-looking man on the island had eyes only for you. Too bad I had ill plans for him and his parents, but like cockroaches, they survived. Even through a nuclear blast. A war. Missing body parts. They manage to survive, even in filth." My father smiles and chuckles victoriously. "How sweet it was when he fell for the bait, using you. I never thought you would love a man with a face like that. You were so stuck up and full of yourself, but I knew how to get to you. I had Ethan pop your little cherry and watch your every move before I gave you away to the one they call the moth." He looks at Killian. "You didn't think I would give her to you a virgin, did you? I told your father, Cross, that I would destroy everything he loved for not giving me what I wanted. When you looked at her that day, you followed her like a lovesick puppy; I knew I had a plan B if you weren't in the car with your parents. If you survived, I knew how to destroy you."

Control.

My father wanted the technology to control the island and the judges. He knew Killian's parents were helping the people on the mainland. My father wanted to play God.

"You think"–Killian gasps for air–"you can just get what you want by killing me. Killing Lillith." Killian laughs, blood dripping down his chin. He smiles, his teeth full of blood. "If I die, you get nothing. If she dies, you get nothing." Killian taps his temple. "It's in here, and you just fucked up your only chance to get it." Killian spits blood on the glass desk.

My tears slide down my cheeks. I turn my head and pin my father with a lethal glare. "He's dying, so you might as well kill me."

"What about your son?" My bottom lip trembles, knowing I have my trust in Ciro and hope Killian will survive. "I'm not like you. I die for the ones I love."

I hear a click and then a humming sound behind me. When I glance up at my father, who was supposed to love me since the day I was born, his eyes widen in panic. My heart beats a million miles a minute. I see his eyes pop out of his head sideways, splattering all over me.

I scream when his decapitated head falls forward. I step back, watching his body twitch.
