Nothing.

Her eyes are blank, dark pools of indifference.

"Well…I don't miss your icy stare or the way you glared at me when I was around you. Supporting you."Loving you, but she doesn't say it. "How annoyed you felt when I would pay attention to you. No, I don't miss being around you, Santiago. If anything, I'm relieved… I was stupid to have thought you cared about me. How I wasted my time."

"I do care about you, Elena." I reach up to touch her cheek, but she steps back. "I said, don't touch me."

"Fine, but I'm going to try to make things right. I'm sorry for hurting you the way I did. I wasn't thinking. I apologized to your dad after he told me that..." I pause, not wanting to say it.

"Good. You should listen to whatever he tells you."

"We grew up together. We're close friends, Elena."

She glares. "Friends? A friend doesn't treat someone the way you treated me. Friends don't hurt their friends. I understand you don't want a future with me, but it wasn't like I was sneaking into your room at night."

If you did, you would be pregnant on our fifth kid, and every orifice in your body would be leaking with my cum.

"I am your friend. I care about you. Let me make it right, Elena. Please," I plead.

I've lost her.

I step close, but she steps back. I want to hold her. I want to take the pain I see in her expression away, but she won't let me touch her.

"You know how''–– she pauses–– "by finding it in your heart to leave me alone. You were honest with me, and I didn't listen." Her voice cracks on the last part

It feels like there is a hole inside my chest where my heart is supposed to be, and it's screaming at me to do something.

"I need to stop showing up. I need to stop loving you. And I have. You wanted me to leave you alone. This is me leaving you alone." And she walks away.

Walking into the dean's offices on the second floor, the secretary seated at the desk looks like an owl with her thick glasses gaping at me when I walk past her and open the door to Dean Richard's office.

He looks up, and I almost laugh in his face. His glasses do nothing to hide the black and yellow rings around both eyes.

“S-Santiago,” he stammers. "You can't barge into my office without speaking to Patricia and signing in." I grin and shut the door. "Please…I haven't seen Miss Sincere.”

I take a seat. "How are the eyes?"

“Healing."

"Not fast enough, eh."

He looks away and stares at the computer. "I said I was sorry," he says quickly. "Niko walked in as she was leaving…"

"I'm not here about that. I'm sure you've learned your lesson in keeping your eyes elsewhere when Elena Sincere is in the room."

He nods his head nervously. "I-I have. I'm sorry."

"Good. I need you to do something for me."

Forks clank on plates behind us. We are seated by the window where we can keep an eye on his car.

Lightning rips through the dark sky, followed by rain. A police car screams down the road. Another flash of lightning followed by rain.

The energy around us shifts. He gives me a blank expression, and I wonder what he is thinking. Maxim has a way of hiding what is on his mind. I could never figure him out, but I'm grateful he doesn't give me a hard time.

"Why are you staring at me? I ask.

He looks away when the waiter comes with our food. She smiles at Maxim with familiarity, placing the pizza on the table.
