“You’re sitting in my seat,” Jordan said as he walked into the office.

“Are you going to make me move?”

A chuckle came from him. “If I have to, yes.”

“I’m pulling up the two most recent cases and downloading the files. I can read them on my phone.”

“Robin is getting you a computer,” he said.

“Good,” she replied as she hit the download button.

“How did you get into my computer?”

“I logged onto our servers,” she said, referring to the U.S. Marshal organization. While local law enforcement systems had the same information as the U.S. Marshals, Jordan had no business getting into any of their other programs. Programs that would identify him as a suspect.

Standing, she came within inches of him. He reached out and trailed his finger down her cheek.

“I really enjoyed last night,” he said, his voice rough.

“Me too,” she said softly not wanting anyone to hear. “Let’s do it again sometime.”

A grin spread across his face.

“But right now, we need to work,” she said. “We have a child abductor to catch.”

And she needed to know who in this town or the other two towns was holding back information.

His lips turned down in a frown. “There’s something we’re missing. Someone has to know what’s going on.”

“Agreed,” she said. “Did you get the report back yet on the fingerprints on that car?”

“Stolen and wiped clean,” he said. “It was a rental.”

She wasn’t surprised. “Did we ask if the car rental place had put a tracking device on the vehicle? Some companies are now doing that to keep from losing so many vehicles. It would tell us where they had been.”

His brows rose. “No, I didn’t. I’ll get on that right now.”

She stepped in close to him, took a deep breath, and touched his chest. This was dangerous for them to be this close in a business office. All she could think about was what they’d done on that desk. All she could think was that she wanted Jordan again. She wanted Ely again. She wanted them both at the same time.

And yet she still didn’t trust them.

“The sooner we make progress on this case, the sooner we can make time for each other.”

A groan came from his lips and his mouth covered hers in a kiss that had flames sparking down her spine and into her center.

Suddenly he grabbed her by the arms, picked her up, and set her several feet away from him.

“You’re too damn tempting,” he said and walked out of the office.

She couldn’t help but giggle as she watched him leave. The man was fighting their attraction, which was good.

Walking around the desk, she returned to the chair and began to read about the other abduction cases. She grabbed a pen and several sheets of paper and made notes about each case.

Most of the abductees were little girls, but there were some boys as well. Most of the children were taken around the end of the month. Whoever was doing this, must want or need money before the first.

Then she noticed that each was taken from a family who had more than one child. None came from a single mother or a family with only one child. That seemed strange. Was the abductor being considerate?

Perhaps most of the missing children came from immigrant families. There would be less of a chance that they would contact police.
