“Dear God, Kaitlyn was right,” Ely said.

He shot the lock off the building, not wanting to waste time searching the yahoos for the key.

Racing into the building, the floor was covered with a rug and hay.

“Shout again,” he said. “It’s the sheriff.”

The little girl screamed and immediately they shoved aside the hay and removed the rug.

Pulling up the trap door, the stairs came down and Jordan rushed into the darkness.

Holding up his phone, he turned on the light.

Marta Alvarez cowered in the corner. Lying on the hard floor next to her was Camila, who was out cold.

“It’s over, honey,” he said gazing at the little girl. “You’re safe now. Ely is going to call dispatch and tell your mother and father we found you. Call for a second ambulance for Camila.”

His heart wrenched in his chest and now that he’d calmed the little girl, he glanced at the woman who in just four days had stolen his heart. God, how he loved her and he didn’t want anything bad to happen to her. He wanted to see her smiling face, the twinkle in her sapphire eyes, and the way she smiled at him.

“They drugged her,” she said. “They put a needle in her arm.”

Rage unlike anything he’d ever felt filled him and he took a deep breath to remain calm.

Oh, God how he loved her. Nothing could happen to her. Nothing, because if she died, a part of him would be dead.

Ely knelt beside her and took her pulse. “Camila. We found you.”

She moaned.

“You’re safe,” he said.

“Marta,” she gasped unable to open her eyes. “She’s here.”

“You’re both safe,” he said.

“Is there any water in here,” Jordan asked Marta wanting to get fluids into Camila as quickly as possible.

“Nothing. No food. No water. Nothing but darkness,” the little girl said. “I’ve been so scared.”

Damn, this son of bitch. He hoped the bastard rotted in prison.

The sound of an ambulance pulling up in the drive could be heard.

“They’re taking Camila first,” Ely said. “Jim White can bleed out for all I care.”

Jordan nodded. “Camila and Marta are both going to the hospital. Your mother and father will meet you there.”

The little girl started to cry and then she stood and threw her arms around Jordan’s waist. His heart clenched.

“I’ve been so scared,” she said. “You saved me. I’m going home. Thank you.”

Holding her against him, he fought the tears filling his eyes.

The ambulance crew glanced down into the hole.

“We have a federal agent who has been drugged. Let’s get her to the hospital and little Marta too.”

The two men climbed down with a stretcher and put Camila on it and then carried her up the narrow stairs.
