Jordan was going to the hospital just as soon as he could go, but first, he had to finish his investigation and arrest the assholes involved.

This had to be an ironclad case because he wanted all four of these men to sit in prison for the rest of their lives.

He lifted Marta in his arms and carried the little girl up the stairs.

“I’m hungry,” she said.

His chest ached at the misery she’d been put through. “I bet the ambulance driver has some crackers or cookies in his truck. Are you going to be all right going with them to the hospital?”

She bit her lip and he could see she was nervous. “Camila will be going with you, but she’s unconscious.”

When they stepped out of the hut into the sunshine, the little girl covered her eyes. “It’s so bright.”

“Keep your eyes covered until I get you in the ambulance,” he said.

With a sigh, he carried her to the truck sitting in the drive. The ambulance crew took her from his arms. “She’s frightened and hungry. And the light is bothering her.”

“We got it,” the man said. “Hey,” the paramedic said, “would you like some cookies and I have a teddy bear for you.”

She gazed at him like she didn’t trust him, but she took the cookies and dug into them.

“Are you going to fix Camila,” she said. “She tried to save me. And she promised me that someone was coming for us. She was right.”

With a sigh, Jordan turned away and wiped the tears from his eyes. How could anyone harm little kids? Someone had to be a sick pervert to do this.

Ely walked up and sighed. “Two more patrol cars are on their way to carry these ranch hands to jail. The second ambulance is pulling up to take Mr. White to the hospital.”

“We’re going to need a twenty-four-hour guard placed on him. If he gets loose from the hospital, he’ll never stand trial.”

Ely nodded. “Agreed.”

“The search warrant came in. But the feds are on their way. I look for this case to be taken over by them,” Ely said.

As much as Jordan hated not being the one to put Jim White behind bars, this case was better suited for a larger organization with more means.

“Marta’s parents are on their way to the hospital to be reunited with their daughter. Camila should be all right according to the ambulance driver.”

Suddenly ten cars all with federal license plates pulled into the drive.

A man stepped out and walked over to Jordan. “Sheriff, good job. We’ll take it from here.”

“Your agent, Camila Garcia, is on her way to the hospital. She was drugged but the ambulance driver said she would be all right.”

The man nodded. “She sent a distress signal about two hours ago to us from her phone. That’s why we’re here so quickly.”

So Camila was not in San Antonio like she’d told them.

“That hurt that she had found evidence and didn’t share it with us,” Jordan mumbled to Ely.

For the next thirty minutes, Jordan and Ely went over everything with the feds. Finally, they were released.

“Let’s go,” Ely said. “I can’t wait to see Camila.”

But, first, they had to deal with Kaitlyn.

Stepping into the truck, he saw that Kaitlyn had laid down in the back seat.

“Are you all right?”
