“I don’t want that one,” I butt in. I don't find alligators cute.

“Which one do you want?” Lorenzo says.

“How much for the hedgehog?” I ask, which isn’t as big, but it is a lot cuter.

“You need to pop two more balloons,” the attendant tells us.

“Well get popping,” I tell Lorenzo, as he laughs, handing over more tickets. He pops them easily and the attendant hands him the hedgehog which he holds out to me. Before I can grabit, he lifts it above his head, wraps an arm around my waist and pulls me into an embrace, before kissing me swiftly on the lips.

“For you, beautiful,” he says softly, letting me grab it from his hands. I squeeze it tightly to my chest and give him a big smile.

“Thank you,” I say, as my smile beams at him. He slings his arm back around me as he leads me away from the games.

“It’s nearly time to meet Ally and Niko. Let's head over to the Century Wheel,” he says. We pass through other games and some food stalls before one catches my eye.

“Ooh can we get some cherries? I haven’t had them in forever,” I tell Lorenzo. His eyes follow where I’m looking before he walks over and asks for a punnet of cherries for me. He swaps the cherries for my hedgehog so I can hold them.

“Here pass Harry,” he says, making my brows pull in.

“Harry?”

“Yeah, I thought it would be a good name for him. Harry the hedgehog. No?” he asks, brows raised, and I can’t help but fall for him a little bit more at this moment.

“Harry sounds perfect,” I gush, making his lips pull up. I pop a cherry into my mouth, pulling off the stalk. Biting down through the soft flesh, the sweet taste hits my tongue with a hint of bitterness following. Chewing before I swallow, I say, “Wanna see a party trick?”

“Sure,” Lorenzo says, watching me as I pop the stalk in my mouth. It takes me a bit longer as I’m a bit rusty from not having done it in a while. I push my tongue around, shaping the stalk how I want it until I manage to push it back through the loop. I grip it between my teeth as my tongue slides one edge against the roof of my mouth pulling it tighter. I smile as I hold it between my teeth and grip it with my fingers to show Lorenzo the perfect knot. His eyes light up as he stops to look at me with his mouth open.

“What? How?” he asks, stumbling over his words.

“You’re drooling,” I tease, laughing.

“My wife's got moves,” he jokes, making me laugh harder. He takes a cherry of his own and after eating it pops the stalk in his mouth to try the trick. His cheeks flare and lips move, making me cackle at his ridiculous face and when he pops the stalk out still without a knot it makes me laugh more. “Damn that’s hard. How did you learn that?”

“Ally and I spent nights in college practising. She thought it was a surefire way to get guys,” I tell him, as we reach the Century Wheel and catch sight of Ally and Niko up ahead.

“Did it work?” he asks, before calling out to Niko who spots us and starts walking our way.

“Not in the slightest. I was too shy to start up conversations back then and honestly who has spare cherries lying around at parties for you to say ooh wanna see a trick?” I tell him, which makes him howl with laughter.

“I see you two are enjoying yourselves. Been on any rides?” Niko asks.

“Just the bumper cars. I was busy winning Harry here,” Lorenzo says, pointing to the stuffed toy in my arms that he’s proud of winning for me.

“How was the Ring of Fire?” I ask, popping another cherry into my mouth.

“It was the best. We went on it twice and we’ve been on a few other rides too,” Niko says, as Ally walks up next to me and takes a couple cherries for herself.

We walk to the line for the Century Wheel, waiting our turn. When it comes, Ally and Niko step into the gondola first and then Lorenzo and I follow. The attendant closes the door behind us before it moves on to fill the next cart up. When the ride starts rotating faster from all the people being changed out,we get to the highest part of the ride, and it stops for us to look at the view.

“Wow,” I say, as I take in the sight of our town. It’s still light out as it’s early evening and you can see as far as the edge of town.

“Yeah, it’s beautiful,” Lorenzo says, as he steps up behind me. His chin drops onto my shoulder where he loves to rest it and wraps his arms gently around my waist.

“It is. I forget how wonderful the town and people are. I may get annoyed by my parents a lot of the time, but the community and people are great. I lost sight of that though,” I admit, and I feel him nod against my shoulder. We get a couple more minutes before the ride starts moving again for others to get their shot at looking at the view. He keeps his arms wrapped around me the rest of the ride as Harry sits on the seat.

“Are you ready to head home?” Lorenzo speaks into my ear from behind. I nod and he plants a kiss to my cheek before he turns to the others. “Are you guys ready to head out?”

“Yeah, I’m all carnivalled out, I think,” Niko says, as Ally nods. Lorenzo grabs Harry from his perch and grasps my fingers with his other hand. After we walk to the car and pile in, we drop off Ally and then Niko.
