“What is it boss?”

“She is in the FBI.”

Fuck! Are you crazy? I want to ask him. My big brother should know better than to be fucking with the cops. We only deal with Nick or no one at all. What is he playing at?

What is all this really about?

I want to ask more questions but the stern look at his face makes me hold my tongue. Alessandro is not to be messed with, especially when he is being like this.

I’m out the door, my mind racing faster than my feet. Sophie Trumon. She’s not your everyday target. Connections stretching like spiderwebs, and I gotta navigate them without getting stuck.

The streets blur past as I weave through the city, brainstorming, calculating. I make a couple of calls, pull some strings. Every move, every contact, it’s like a chess game, and I have to think steps ahead.

I hit the pavement, the pulse of the city thrumming around me. My instincts are buzzing, the thrill of the chase setting my blood on fire. Sophie Trumon, she’s the kind who leaves whispers in the dark alleys, like breadcrumbs for the daring.

I slide into a dingy joint, all shadows and murmurs, trying to dig up any scent of her trail. “Sophie Trumon,” I throw the name like a challenge to the room. This is where I get most of my intel from. If someone is messing around town, the smaller fish is where you start looking.

Eyes flicker, a couple of nods, but no one’s eager to spill. She’s a ghost, leaving traces but never letting herself be caught.

Hours slip by, each lead taking me closer, but never close enough. This game, it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

I light a cigarette, frustration simmering under my skin.

I dial up Yuri, my go-to guy for info lurking in the shadows. He’s got ears in places that most people don’t even know exist. “Yuri, I need some dirt on Sophie Trumon. Anything you got.”

He chuckles on the other end, that gravelly voice sending shivers down my spine. “Sophie's a tricky one, Giulio. She’s a fucking cop, so that will cost you extra, but I might have a breadcrumb or two.”

I lean in, tension coiling in my gut. “What’s the catch?”

Yuri doesn’t beat around the bush. “Ten grand wired to my account. I’ll see what I can rustle up for you.”

Ten grand isn’t chump change, but Sophie's a riddle I need to crack. “Deal. Get me her location.”

Half an hour later, Yuri comes through, sending me the plates of Sophia’s ride. She’s smart, opting to park away from the usual spots, keeping off the grid. My kinda gal, I think, a smirk playing on my lips.

I pull up to her car, a sleek black number that fits her vibe. Breaking in isn’t a challenge, but the inside? Sparse. Just a box of tampons and chocolate wrappers. Oddly human, considering the high-stakes game she’s in. It almost makes me chuckle.

I leave my card on her dash, a silent invitation to chat.

Hours crawl by, while I wait parked in a hidden place, and just when I’m about to throw in the towel, she walks in. Redhead, bangs framing her face, rocking a long trench coat like she just walked off a runway. She’s a vision, and for a moment, I forget why I’m here.

The stirring in my cock jolts me back to reality.

But then she spots my card, looks around like a cat on the prowl, and tears it to shreds before slipping into her black Range Rover. Talk about a curveball.

I sit there, mouth agape, watching her disappear into the city’s bustle. Questions flood my mind, but the biggest one hangs heavy: Why the heck is Alessandro so hot and bothered about her?

I speed back to the office, heart pounding like a jackhammer. Alessandro’s pacing, his Italian temper on full display. “What did you find?”

I spill it all out, the car, the tampons, Sophia’s grand entrance, and the card getting torn to shreds. Alessandro’s face is a stone wall, but I can see the gears turning in his head.

“Why does she matter?” I ask, frustration bleeding into my voice.

Alessandro’s gaze pierces through me, intense. “She’s the key to something big, Giulio. Something that could make us or break us.”

That cryptic answer doesn’t sit well with me. “What do you want me to do? She is FBI and I don’t want her to spook.”

“Continua a scavare. Sophia custodisce segreti più preziosi dell’oro, e noi ne abbiamo bisogno.”Keep digging, she is the key to many secrets and we need her.
