“She’s FBI. I don’t trust her,” he replies, his words punctuated with unease.

Giulio doesn’t know the importance of this meeting. Instead of explaining, I decide to show rather than tell. He will understand everything in due time.

I open my phone’s gallery, where a few pictures of Rachel are saved. Her serene face, captured while she slept, flashes across the screen. She’s stunning. How can someone so beautiful conceal such lethal intent?

My jaw ticks with frustration, and I swiftly close the gallery, shifting my focus to Rachel’s file. I want every detail etched in my brain. I’m so absorbed in studying it that Giulio’s voice catches me off guard.

“We are here,” he announces, his voice pulling me out of my thoughts.

I glance up, realizing we’ve arrived at the storage unit. I grab my spare gun, strapping it in place before stepping out of the car. Pulling on my sunglasses, I notice Giulio doing the same as we head towards the storage unit.

The air is heavy with anticipation, a sense of foreboding settling over me as we approach. The storage unit stands before us, a nondescript structure in the dim light. I take a deep breath, bracing myself for whatever lies ahead.

Giulio walks beside me, his unease practically radiating off him. “You ready for this, boss?” he asks, his voice hushed.

I nod, trying to project an air of confidence I’m not entirely feeling. “As ready as I’ll ever be.”

The storage unit’s metal door looms large in front of us. I hesitate for a moment before unlocking it, the sound echoing in the stillness. As the door creaks open, a surge of adrenaline courses through me. The darkness inside feels suffocating, hiding mysteries that I’m about to unravel.

Stepping into the unit, my eyes adjust to the dimness, scanning the space meticulously. Boxes and crates are strewn about, casting elongated shadows in the subdued light. The air smells musty, carrying the weight of forgotten secrets.

Giulio stays close, his eyes darting around, alert for any sign of trouble. I appreciate his vigilance, a trusted ally in the uncertain terrain we’re navigating.

“We’re not alone,” Giulio murmurs, his hand inching toward his concealed weapon.

I nod, my senses heightened. I’ve learned to trust Giulio’s instincts; they’ve saved us more times than I can count. We proceed cautiously, every step calculated, as we delve deeper into the unit’s mysteries.

The tension is thick enough to slice through as we advance, a silent understanding passing between us. We’re in this together.

Just then the lights come on, bright enough to blind me. “Cristo. What the fuck?” I shout reaching for my gun.

“Don’t bother Ricci,” and that is when I see the woman in the corner. She is wearing a long red trench coat, her red hair cut in bangs. She also has a pair of sunglasses on, and very red lips. She is pretty.

But her attention is not on me, instead she stares at my brother who blatantly stares back.

“What the fuck is he doing here?”

“He is my partner.”

She scoffs, “More like your boot licker. I am not talking until he gets out.”

I can sense him as he reaches for the gun at the waistband of his pants. I want to stop him but she speaks up before I start.

“Don’t even dare. This place is rigged with cameras that are live recording everything. You make a stupid move, it is all on tape. And if I don’t go home and stop the feed by the end of today, it automatically sends that to the FBI.”

Giulio ignores her threat pulling out the black pistol. Before I can even turn to face Sophie, she pulls out an identical gun. “Two can play that game Giulio.”

Fuck!

“Can everyone put their weapons down?” I ask growing agitated.

“She started this,” Giulio says.

Cazzo! “Giulio. That is an order.”

He is clearly pissed off but he knows how this works because his arm slowly lowers. Sophie, on the other hand, snickers.

“Tell your guard dog to wait outside so we can talk.”
