My conversation with Alpha Dane hit me like a truck, making my belly churn.

His dad expected us to… There was no eloquent way to put it. I might be a virgin, but I wasn’t stupid.

“He’s going to know that we haven’t.” I used my hand to motion between us.

As shifters, our sense of smell was impeccable, and after my conversation with him earlier, I didn’t doubt he would besniffing us out to make sure I was holding up my end of the bargain.

“I have a way around it.”

It was my turn to startle. “You do?”

Lincoln cleared his throat and shifted his feet. “My brother’s been using this method with his partner for a few weeks. I’ll, uh…” He looked away. “I’ll have to touch you, though.”

My wolf thrilled at the idea of him touching me. I darted my gaze to his hands. They were calloused like he worked hard, and I wondered what they would feel like caressing my bare skin. Chills raced through me at the thought.

I shook my head.Pull yourself together. You are a prisoner. One with very detailed rules.

I closed my eyes and dropped my head to my chest. “If I’m not pregnant in six months, Alpha Dane said he would kill me.”

“What?”

Oh, so he didn’t know that part. Great!

I glanced up at Lincoln. The color had drained from his face, and his jaw was set.

I crossed my arms over my chest. “He was pretty adamant about that.”

Lincoln ran a hand through his hair and blew out a slow breath. “I didn’t know that…but…”

Whatever the but was, he didn’t finish it.

He turned, jogged to the end table to the left of the bed, and picked something up. I squinted. It was a cell phone. He typed so hard I could hear his thumbs pounding against the screen.

“I need to tell Sawyer this.” He looked up at me with narrowed eyes and then back to his phone. “This changes everything.”

“What does it change?” I wondered out loud.

He had to know his dad was a psychopath. He might be a sigma and not socialize with the pack, but this was his dad and alpha.

Lincoln shook his head and put his phone back down on the end table. “Dinner is in forty-five minutes. We are expected to be there. Um, can you come here?”

He sat on the bed and patted the spot next to him.

I grasped my elbows as I hugged myself. Had he had a change of heart? Was he going to… Were we going to…

I knew what I was here for, but I’d kind of hoped my first time might be special. Was that too much to ask?

His brows shot up, and a deep red covered his cheeks. “Oh. Sorry. Right. Um.” He cleared his throat. “I wanted to tell you how to make you smell like me. Never mind.”

He got up, went to one door, and opened it. He disappeared inside while mumbling to himself.

He emerged a moment later with a towel and clothes in his hands. “I need you to take a shower and then put these on.”

My gaze drifted to the clothes. They were his. I let my gaze linger over his frame. There was no way they were going to fit me. The pants would fall right off my waist.

He didn’t seem to have the same concerns as me because he headed into the bathroom and flipped on the light. “I need you to use my shampoo and body wash, too. The more you smell like me, the better. Dad needs to believe that we…”

He cleared his throat and set the pile of things on the bathroom counter.
