Assuming we didn’t get caught.Nope. I wasn’t going to think like that. We would succeed. We had to.

My heart ached at having to leave Sawyer behind. How could I? How couldwe? We’d only just found each other. And he wasn’t the only one who would be left behind.

Sawyer could take care of himself.

“What about Willa? We can’t leave her here.”

Lincoln scrubbed his hand over his face and nodded. “She’ll slow us down. She can’t shift, and that cut on her leg looked bad. It’s going to take time to heal.”

I worried my bottom lip. He was right. Pregnant shifters couldn’t shift. It was to protect the unborn child.

I sighed and reached out to take Lincoln’s hand. “We can’t leave her behind, Lincoln. Luna knows what your father might do to her when we run off and…” Tears burned my eyes, and I sniffled. “I can’t leave her here. It’d be cruel and go against everything we want to fix. She’s one of us.”

He picked up my hand and kissed the back of it. “I know.” His lips lingered against my skin a moment longer. “We’ll figure it out.”

Apprehension filled my chest. I bit my lip as I went to the door and placed my hand on the wood.

Sawyer was on the other side. I was sure of it.

Lincoln moved next to me and put his hand on the door, too. “You feel him?”

I looked at him through bleary eyes and nodded.

He took my free hand and put it over his heart. “That’s our bond. We’ll always be able to feel each other and know the other person is safe. It’s already so strong. It will be even stronger when we claim each other.”

My bottom lip trembled. “I’m scared. I don’t want to lose either of you.”

Lincoln cupped both my cheeks and pressed a kiss to my lips. “You won’t. It’s all going to work out.”

I smiled up at him. “How can you be so sure?”

He placed a kiss on my cheek. “Because I have faith. You should too.”

I leaned into him as he enveloped me in a hug. He held me tightly and rubbed his hand soothingly up and down my back. I closed my eyes and let out a long breath.

His arms were home. Safe. The only thing missing was Sawyer.

“How long until we leave?” I whispered.

“We’ll leave at night. The same day they do. The guards are fewer at night, and we’ll have the benefit of the dark.”

My whole body shuddered. Tomorrow was the last day I’d have both my men together. It could be a very long time before I saw Sawyer again.

Two nights from now, we’d be leaving. I prayed Luna protected us.

Twenty

I paced back andforth across the uneven stone of the cave. I darted my gaze to the waterfall, waiting.

Lincoln had shooed me in here and then taken off to run the perimeter to make sure we weren’t being followed. I put my hand over my mouth and chewed my pointer fingernail.

He should have been back by now.

He’s just being cautious,I reasoned with myself.

The bag we’d brought with us had a few pairs of clothes, some snacks, and a huge wad of cash that I didn’t dare ask where it had come from.

We hadn’t seen Sawyer since last night when he’d gone off with the Alpha, but we’d made strides to put his plan into motion. Lincoln and I had spent the day in his room, plotting and planning, until I couldn’t take it anymore.
