Chase and Dom lied to me for more than two years…but…club business is club business.Hell, they kept things from everybody else in the club…so who the hell was I?

Just the town trollop apparently.

Now I’m trapped in an apartment that doesn’t feel like home anymore in a city that doesn’t feel like my own. I’ll start my residency in a week, so hopefully I’ll adjust by then.

I’ve been sitting on a low windowsill looking out at the traffic below for close to forty-five minutes now. It’s pretty much the only perk of being on the 8thfloor.

Carrying up groceries when the elevator isn’t working will rob you of your will to live pretty fast—okay, bad joke, considering…

I think I’ll go down and grab a coffee at the roadside café. I slip into my shoes and grab a jacket before heading down—Boston is a lot nippier than California.

I take the elevator to the lobby, greet some neighbors I’m sort of polite with, on the way to the door, then I’m out on the chilly city street—which the coffee shop is literally across from.

I stroll across, greet Dana the waitress with a wave and a smile, then stick a finger in the air for my usual. She gives me a thumbs up and then I hear the rumble of a Harley—Which is not such a big thing where I live.

I turn to see the bike thoroughly annoy several snooty civilians before the rider pulls to a stop outside my building and throws down his kickstand—it’s Chase.

I watch him climb off and remove his helmet, then stare at the building in front of him. He looks at his phone and then pulls out one air-pod out his ear.

Sigh. I’d better go get him.

I check both sides, then run across the street just as he starts walking. “Hey!” I tap his back as I come to a stop.

He turns and gives me the smile you give someone when you’ve missed them and you’re glad to see them. I haven’t gotten a smile like this before—that’s how I know.

“If this is a booty call, there were at leastfifty-millionwoman who lookjustlike me on the way from the club to here.”

“Hey,” the smile grows bigger, then he pulls me into a hug where he rests his chin on my head…then kisses the top of my head and lets me go.

“I just ordered a coffee,” I jerk my thumb behind me.

He nods and holds my hand to cross the street. I wave to Dana when we get there and put two fingers up.

The Bostonians look at Chase with envy. The women want to be with him, the men wish theywerehim.

When we sit down on our plastic chairs with the stainless steel legs, Chase says, “There are some things I need to say.”

“You rode five days for that?”

“You weren’t answering your phone.”

“You didn’t try chasing me? Your bike is faster than my Prius.”

“I wasn’t sure you’d want to hear it that night,” then he pauses uncomfortably. “Well, maybe I wasn’t sure I’d be able to tell you.”

“Okay,” I feel kind of nervous now.

“Let me start by saying that neither me or Dom wanted to do that to you. I almost fought him over it, but you’re a patch and it’s your right. I was going to do it. He told me not to.”

“Oh, how sweet, you were going to murder someone for me.” When I roll my eyes, he knows he’s starting off the wrong way.

“It wasn’t for you, Lara. It was for me. That’s what I didn’t tell you.”

“What?”

“I know Dom told you that I was drinking a lot when I came home from the army. I know Nick and Luke told you I was a dick to them when they were prospects…but there’s a lot of stuff they didn’t tell you.”

“Like?”
