I admit, I missed them all too, very much so.

She also tells me how things had turned around after I told them that I’d be coming back. She described it as—wet nosed and bushy tailed!

We’ve been in the car for a while now, because the airport isn’t exactly next door, and we’re heading for the clubhouse when Cassidy abruptly takes the turn into town.

I turn and give her my—just tell me—look.

“Fine! They’re waiting at the clinic for you to cut the ribbon,” she gives me a big smile. “They’ve been working so hard to get it ready for you! Please act surprised!”

I laugh, “Okay. I will. I suppose the fact that I had a child kicking my seat from the back, an obese person on my right who wouldn’t share the armrest and a screaming baby somewhere in the front for six hours means nothing.”

“Come on! It couldn’t have beenthatbad.”

“It was! I want a pizza and to in inject some whiskey directly into my veins!”

She gives me the—be nice—look.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be good, mom! I’m sure they’re excited.”

“Then be excited too!”

“I am!” I shout…and we both laugh!

It’s not long before I spot a long row of motorcycles in the distance…but it’s not just motorcycles…it looks like a fleet of cars as well!

“Oh no! Did they invite the whole town?”

“Yeah,” Cassidy turns to me with a scrunched-up face.

“Lord! Look at how I’m dressed! I look like I just got off a six-hour flight!”

“You did,” she frowns at me.

“I know!” I squint at her for the betrayal and she laughs at me.

Cassidy pulls to a stop in the middle of the street like she owns the road and I look out at about fifty smiling, cheering faces!

I step out of the car and there’s more hollering and cheering. There are balloons everywhere and I see the signage over the single-story building that reads—TR.MC. FREE CLINIC.

I am smiling, but it’s not to be polite, it’s real. They’ve done an amazing job!

The Sheriff and some of the townspeople are there with handshakes, greetings and comments on how grateful they are to finally have a doctor in our small town.

It sounds like everybody hates driving the forty-five minutes to go see someone in the city.

Dom emerges from the crowd and pulls me into a hug. I don’t even have the words to express myself right now.

He doesn’t say anything either, he just holds me.

Next are Chase, Nick and Bret. They do the same. Words aren’t necessary. Then, the rest of the club follows.

This is better than when I got the patch and my bike!

They’re really spoiling me!

After a lot of squeezing, hugging, smiling and chatting, Dom pulls me through the crowd to a podium they’ve set up.

No!
