All of us laugh. This is more like it.I’ve never known Nick to be indecisive. He takes what he wants.

“You didn’t get to see what was happening from my side,” Stacey laughs again.

“What?”

She looks at Nick, trying to force her smile down, then at me, “He kept mouthing—Fuck off—to Cassidy.Shekept giving him the finger or sticking her tongue out saying—no.It was hilarious!”

I laugh even harder at that and say to Nick, “I guess she wanted you to earn it!”

“Seems like.”

“Definitely,” Stacey puts the drinks down and we all have our shots. She winks, “I’ll give you two some privacy and watch from over there,” she points to the opposite bar counter.

“I appreciate it,” Nick winks back. When she’s far away, tending to the other customers, he says, “So, how about it. Will you go on a date with me?”

“Seriously?” I think the smile is going to tear my face in two pieces.

“Yeah!”

“Where are going to take me? You’re right about there being nothing in this town.”

“How about to the movies?”I must admit, Nick can be charming as hell when he needs to.The smile alone is enough for me to throw my panties at him.

“There isn’t a movie theater for at least a hundred miles.”

“There’s a TV in your room though. How about a littleNetflix ‘n chill?” He bobs his eyebrows and I laugh.

“Yeah…I should’ve seenthatcoming!”

“What?” He does a move like he’s clutching some imaginary pearls. “You really think so little of me?”

“Iknowyou, Nick!” I tap him on his nose like a puppy. “You want the milk and you haven’t even taken this cow to dinner yet!”

One eyebrow goes up, “Are you seriously calling yourself a cow right now?”

“It’s just an analogy, Romeo.”

“Hey, that’s not what I had in mind at all. I just thought we’d hang out for a while. Domdidtell me to stay with you after all.”

Damn, that’s true.Maybe heisplaying this above board. “Okay, let’s finish these drinks and then we can go to my room.”

“Okay.” The smile he gives me is so innocent—butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth!

I take my last sip and I’m glad that I didn’t drink too much tonight. I’m still compos mentis—That’s fancy doctor talk for still being in my right mind.

Nick doesn’t finish his, he just pushes his bottle forward and thanks Stacey, I do too, then he stands and takes my hand…just like he did atSheet Street.

It’s nice. It makes me smile.

We step out of the bar and begin to walk around the premises all the way down to the clubhouse…not talking…just enjoying holding hands.

I like how Nick holds my hand.

This might sound stupid, but I really think a lot can be conveyed by the way someone holds your hand.

I mean…The Beatles? I want to hold your hand?

You can come up with as many slick love songs as you want, but that’s one classic that can’t be outdone!
