Dom puts his hand on Lara’s shoulder and speaks calmly, “Three months till residency. Good. You work for me till then. You’ll live here, eat here, sleep here until you pay off your debt.” He turns and starts to walk off.

Lara jumps up, “The fuck I will! You can’t keep me here! I’m going to be a doctor, not a fucking bar lady!” She turns to Carla. “No offense.”

Carla shrugs, “None taken.”

Dom comes back, towering over us and raises his voice at Lara, “You’re what I say, when I say it and you’ll do that till I say otherwise! You’ll clean the fucking toilets if I tell you to! Maybe then you’ll learn some respect!

“He disrespected me first! He said—”

“You disrespected ME! This is my house! The house I built! If you weren’t who you are, I don’t have to tell the people in this room where you’d be right now.”

“Where’s that?” Lara says, petulantly.

Dom leans down so the whole bar can’t here, “With a bullet in your head at the bottom of the abandoned quarry. I’ve done worse over less. You’re alive because you’re your brother’s sister. I’d advise you to shut the fuck up and take your punishment.”

I actually see the blood drain from her face as Dom talks.

He steps back and looks at me with disappointment, “Put her in the spare room. If she escapes, you’re responsible,” then he points at Nick. “You too.”

Nick starts, “What did I—” but the look Dom gives him shuts him up.

Dom steps back and addresses the whole bar, “Let this be a lesson. You got beef? You come to me, you don’t take things into your own hands.”

Everyone is quiet.

“That’s all, party’s over, everybody out.”

Chapter Three

Lara

Well…that could’ve gone a little better. Chase is still fuming, but I couldn’t give a tiny rat’s ass about him.

Dominic heads back up to his office and as I watch everybody file out of the place, Carla says, “Well, this was a memorable sendoff. At least now I’ve got a story I can tell.”

“What’s that?”

She pours another round of shots, “About the time a crazy girl set fire to a patch member’s bike and didn’t get shot in the face.”

“Come on! It didn’t explode or anything. Maybe the leather got a bit melted and it needs some paint but—”

I stop talking when everyone gives me grim looks and shakes their heads.

“Seriously?”

“Seriously,” Carla pushes a shot toward me. “One for the road.”

“Highway to hell more like.”

Cassidy picks up a shot, “To Lara, at least now I know you’re going to be visiting for a lot longer.”

Nick and Bret pick theirs up too, but they’re not smiling, “To Lara.”

“To Lara,” Carla says, then we all clink our glasses and take the shot.

Blech!I’m really starting to feel these shots now! I’m also a little horny. Arson will do that to a girl. I doubt losing your virginity when you’re drunk is a good idea though.

Not that either of these two seem in the mood right now. The way they’re scowling at me, you’d think I killed someone.
