I pat Carla’s hand, “Are we going to see you again?”
“Sure,” she smiles. “All the time. I ride and I hang around. I just don’t want to be mixed up in all this club bullshit.” She grabs her jacket from under the counter. “You boys can lock up.”
She saunters off without even saying goodbye—That’s one tough momma bear.
“Bye!” I call out.
She waves without looking back.
“I guess I’d better be heading out too,” Cassidy stands up and gives me a hug. “See you tomorrow maybe?”
“Sure. Let me follow you out, the motel is on the way.”
The three of them frown at me.
“What?”
Cassidy puts her hand on my leg, “Lara, were you even paying attention?”
“What do you mean?” Whatdoesshe mean?
“Are you drunk?”
“Yes.”I really am!
Bret puts a hand on my shoulder, “You can’t leave here. Dom said you’re staying in the spare room.”
“There’s a spare room? Great! I hope it’s nice, I don’t think I’d be able to drive anyway.”
Nick laughs, “It’s okay, the room I mean. Do you want me to get your bags for you?”
“Please! Thank you! You’re a sweetheart,” I hand him the keys to my Prius. “Everything is in the trunk. I don’t needeverythingthough.”
“I’ll bring it all just in case.”
“Then you’ll have to put it all back in the morning,”I do the voice I use when talking to puppies and tap him on the nose.
“Yeah, sure,” he winks at me and starts walking off.
I call out, “Also, the backpack on the passenger seat!”
“Okay.”
“Okay, bye again,” Cassidy hugs me one more time. “See you tomorrow.”
“Bye!” I turn around and rest my elbows on the bar counter so I can watch them leave.
Bret stands in front of me, “You’re taking all this really, really well.”
“All of what?”
“This?”
“Well, I haven’t been drunk in a long time. I like it!” He’s looking a bit too damn handsome right now.
Oh hell, we don’thave to havesex tonight. I can still kiss him though,right? He kissed my neck before. He’s totally in to me!
“Come here, Mr. Handsome face!”I don’t know why I use my puppy voice again. I grab his head and pull him to me.
