Pulling out the chair from the kitchen table that has Rapid's flannel shirt draped over it, I take a seat and admire the view.

Long, muscular legs stretch out across the tile of my kitchen floor, clad in faded blue jeans that fit loose at his waist. He's wearing a light blue t-shirt with his family's business logo on the front above a graphic of a Bigfoot paddling a kayak that says "Jonesing for the river" beneath it.

The shirt rides up as he raises his arms to work on some part of the plumbing between the sink and the dishwasher.

Tanned skin stretches taut over abs made for licking, a trail of sandy colored hair a shade darker than his beard leads from his chest and disappears under the waistband of black briefs visible where the jeans have pulled low on his hips.

Is it weird that I'm actually hoping for a glimpse of plumber's crack?

This manwantsme, I think, remembering the feel of his hardness pressed against me, the heat of his lips on mine. All the filthy things he promised to do to me as soon as we have a chance to be alone.

A heavy sigh escapes me.

"It'd be so much easier if Arnold would just sign off his parental rights altogether," I muse aloud. "That way if I ever get remarried, my new husband would be able to legally adopt Jackson."

"You want to get married again?" he asks from the depths of my kitchen sink cabinet.

"Someday, sure, but Jackson and I are a package deal and it's not like I'm ever going to find a guy who loves Jackson like you do."

As soon as it slips out of my mouth, I regret it, and seeing Rapid's body go still confirms my mistake.

"Sage--"

"You know, I left some stuff open on the computer that I need to get back to. If you need anything, I'll be out front."

Without giving him a chance to respond, I dash through the door to the clinic where I take a full minute to breathe and come to terms with the fact that I just fucked up my chance to get in that man's pants.

Rapid

Sage might think she said something to scare me off, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Hearing her say she'd like to get married again, and knowing that she sees how I feel about Jax? That has my heart beating double time as I try to tighten the fittings on the line I replaced without getting sloppy.

Now that I know we're on the same page, there's nothing left standing between me and my plans to make Sage mine.

Sliding out from under the sink, careful of my head this time, I drop tools back in the box and run the washer on an empty load to make sure it's not leaking anywhere.

Once I'm convinced it's safe to leave unattended, I head through the door to her office, taking care to be mindful of any patients that might be out front.

Looks like a slow day for the doc, the clinic is empty and I find her sitting at her desk in the small office, staring at the computer screen as the screen saver moves lazily across the monitor.

She's fucking gorgeous. Her hair is pinned in a loose knot like she usually wears it on her work days. My fingers itch to pull that clip and watch those dark locks fall free.

Her cheek rests against a loose fist, propped up by an elbow leaning on the desk beside the mouse. It forces her lips into a thick pout, her chin wrinkled in a way that makes her look irresistibly cute.

Today's uniform of forest green scrubs stretches over her full breasts and round hips yet still manages to hide most of her tempting figure.

Taking her all in from the partially open doorway, I let myself think of her as mine--truly mine-- for the first time.

Knowing I'm not fighting an uphill battle against her past or her concern for her son or a career that could have taken her away from my mountain has me feeling bold.

Sage startles at the light knock against her office door and when she looks up and sees me, I know what she sees; a man obsessed.

"Rap--"

My name dies on her lips, drown in the kiss I'm laying on her as I pull her from her chair and wrap her in my arms.

The bell on the clinic door chimes, interrupting us before I can say a word.
