Not even the series of cute pictures of Savannah and Skittles that comes in during my internet hour makes me feel better.

Why did I get involved with him in the first place? Why can’t I control my urges? Why do I get myself in the weirdest situation always?

I close my eyes and I still have no answer. But the memory of last night flashes full color in my mind.

Chapter Twelve: Adrian

“Okay, I’m confused. Can you repeat what happened again?” I let the curtain fall back into place and spin around to face Brian.

He is pacing his room, one hand shoved into his pocket, the other moving through his hair.

“Which part is confusing to you?”

“The whole thing,” I reply, pausing to move away from the window. I perch on the edge of the bed and twist to face Brian. “So, you left the door to your room open, and when you came back, and it was dark, and you heard a woman?”

“A naked woman,” Brian emphasizes, with a shake of his head. “And she wasn’t even apologetic. She just kept trying to get me in bed with her.”

I frown. “Are you sure you didn’t come back to the wrong room? And how do you know she was naked if it was dark?”

Brian stops pacing and gives me an incredulous look. “No, I’m sure it was my room. Plus, I’m the one who left the door open. I just went out to get my food. It was late last night. No worries I went undercover. I didn’t want to cause you trouble. I covered up and I came back very fast. I didn't talk to anyone. Sneaked in and out without being seen. I made out her vague silhouette as she ran past me.”

I hold both hands up. “Maybe a guest got confused and went into the wrong room? It happens sometimes. And Brian, you were not supposed to go out like that, remember. No one knows you're here or that I have a twin brother. Do you see the confusion it could cause?”

Brian grimaces. “So, why would she come into my room and think it’s a good idea to undress and try to get me into bed?”

I shrug and stand up. “I don’t know. She probably…most likely…. Maybe she was drunk…. I don't know, I really don't know, Brian.”

Brian made a face. “She seemed sober to me. I don’t know, Adrian. It seems like you’ve got some weird people staying at the ranch. What if she comes back and tries to seduce me again, just when I’ve lowered my guard?”

I pause. “That’s extremely unlikely, but I’ll look into it. You might want to be sure before you startle my whole staff next time. Don't leave your room and don't leave your door open.”

Now I'm worried. Is he hallucinating? He does have a past history of it.

Brian folds his arms over his chest. “And in the meantime, we should change my room just to be on the safe side. I don’t need any more of this. It's fucking with my life.”

I sigh. “Okay, if it’ll make you feel better.”

With a frown, I pick up the phone and dial the main desk. “Yes, I’d like someone to pack my brother’s things and have him moved to another room. I’m not sure what is happening or why it happened. We have no clue or evidence of this incident, but we don't want it to happen again.”

Maureen is already typing on the keyboard. “Of course, sir. I’ll have it taken care of immediately.”

I exhale. “I’ll be with Doctor Masterson if you need me.”

“Of course. Have a good day, Mr. Steele.”

“You too.”

I shove a hand into my pocket and step out of Brian's room and down a series of hallways.

Doctor Masterson’s door is slightly ajar. She’s sitting at her desk, hair piled into a bun on top of her head, a pencil between her lips.

She glances up when I walk in. A flicker of confusion moves over her face.

“Is this a bad time?”

She shakes her head and gestures to the chair. “Not at all, Mr. Steele. How can I help you? Have you given any more thought to the conservatorship?”

I sit down and fold my hands in my lap. “I’m not here to discuss that. I’m here to talk about the side effects of the psych medications you prescribed.”
