All I know is that racing back up the stairs to pack my bag and message Savannah felt right.

Leaving my dead marriage was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

But I can’t help but worry about what the future has in store for me.

And why it has to begin in Montana of all places.

Chapter Two: Adrian

“Where have you been? I sent you that note a while ago.”

I glance over my shoulders, down both sides of the hallway, and step into the room. Then I let the door click shut behind me. “I was taking care of some new guests.”

Brian uncrosses his leg and stands up. “You’re supposed to be helping me.”

“Brian, I am helping you.” I walk over to him and give him a reassuring smile. “We’ve talked about this, remember? I can’t be at your beck and call twenty-four seven.”

Not while I’m running a successful business.

I love my brother, and there’s very little I wouldn’t do for him. But even I am beginning to wonder if bringing him here was a good idea.

He blows out a breath. “I know. I’m sorry. I’m just nervous. Are you sure no one knows I’m here?”

I nod and shove both hands into my pockets. “All of my staff is discreet. I have a zero-tolerance policy for anyone who gossips. So even if there is a leak which there won’t be, I’ll take care of it.”

Brian wanders over to the curtain and pushes it aside. “It’s only a matter of time before they find out. And when they do, they won’t leave me alone.”

“We’ll cross that bridge when and if we get there.” I study his room, taking in the large bed, the dresser with a TV mounted on top of it, and the mini fridge with a shelf above it.

When I glance at the bathroom, I notice it’s damp, and there are some wet towels on the floor.

He must have just showered.

Staring at him from across the room is still a little jarring.

Since we were young, I’ve always found it unsettling to look at Brian. Unsettling to see my own features looking back at me.

Although we are twins, and physically identical, that is where our similarities end.

While I spent all of high school and college partnering up with friends and building an empire, Brian partied and fell in with the wrong crowd.

Despite my best attempts to steer him down another path, Brian never listened.

At least he’s listening now. Fuck, Brian. How did you let things get so out of hand this far?

How did he go from a promising engineer to an alcoholic and drug user who lost everything?

Not to mention an occasional episode of hallucination due to his excessive drug and alcohol use, or it could be something more serious.

I don't know much, but all I know is that I have a big responsibility toward my only sibling and only immediate family, to make sure he is ok and well.

And if it wasn't for his neighbor—who found him passed out and nearly overdosed—he wouldn't be here today.

When I heard the news, I just knew I had to bring him here for treatment, even though I knew it's going to be very challenging.

For the life of me, I couldn’t understand how he let things get so far.

Especially in his condition.
