Tiero carefully rolls me onto my back. One of his hands cradles my face, his finger caressing my cheek, and I fight the urge to lean into him.

His touch sears me, yet comforts at the same time, the familiarity a welcome reprieve from the tumultuous rollercoaster ride of my emotions today.

Then his other hand spreads over my abdomen.

Everything inside me freezes.

That blazing inferno from seconds ago is killed with that single touch.

The gesture is so protective, it makes my heart jump a beat.

Forget about pretending to faint.

I’m ready for it now.

Does Tiero know?

Does he know about our baby?

How?

I feel the blood draining from my face as I contemplate this.

“Angel, wake up. Come back to me,” he says, sounding worried.

If I was a better woman, I’d put him out of his misery and let him know that I’m okay.

But now more than ever, I’m determined to follow through with this charade. I have to… because if I don’t and open my eyes, he will read the truth in them.

I can’t risk it. He must not know about our baby.

I feel the intensity of his stare on me—it pulses in the air.

He picks me up and cradles me against his chest. “We need to get her out of this cold,” he says to someone. Santino perhaps?

His scent now fully assaults me. I’m taking in lungfuls of ocean and musk. Well, at least my breathing seems to work again. Tiny rumbles of electricity hum to life as his essence infiltrates every one of my cells.

His scent brings back the memories. Sweaty memories… memories of us intertwined and panting for breath.

My pulse throbs through every inch of my body, gathering strength in my core. Crap, why does he still have this effect on me?

I’m yanked back to the here and now when I hear Rhia yell.

“You can’t leave him out here. Hey, where are you taking me? I’m talking to you, goon head.” Then her voice trails off.

What’s happening? What did they do to Aiden?

Oh god, what if they hurt him?

He needs me. I must do something.

My heart racing wildly, I crack open one eye, but with my head lulled against Tiero’s chest, I only see dark fabric.

Duh, I’m pointing the wrong way.

I stir in Tiero’s arms, moaning for good measure, trying to turn my head to see.

But all that does is make Tiero tighten his hold, pulling me closer against him.
