Last night, Tiero shared his favorite memories of his father. It makes me wonder about his mom. What was their relationship like?

“What’s your mother’s name?” I ask, realizing I don’t even know the basics of his family and his upbringing.

“Adelina… it means noble and kind,” he says, his voice soft, almost a whisper. The reverence he holds for her is unmistakable.

“That’s a beautiful name,” I say in awe. It has a wonderful ring to it.

“And you remembered I always want to know the meaning of names.” I nudge him playfully to lighten the mood.

I feel his smile against my skin as he kisses my forehead tenderly. “Told you, I remember everything.”

“Adelina,” I repeat out loud. “How do you feel about naming our baby Adelina if we have a girl?” I ask, peeking up at him through my lashes. “In honor of your mother.”

His smile grows. “I’d love that. And your mother’s name as her middle name? She deserves to be remembered too.”

“Yeah, she does. Though her name doesn’t sound as melodic as your mom’s.”

He chuckles. “Adelina Ingrid De Marco it is. Though you know we’re having a boy first. It’s a De Marcos tradition.” I roll my eyes at that and giggle.

“How do you know my mom’s name? I’ve never told you.” I lean up on my good arm to look at him.

“Remember? I’ve done my homework on you.”

Huffing, I lower my head again and snuggle deeper into his embrace.

“Creep,” I tease.

Adelina Ingrid.

I let the name echo in my mind. It resonates somewhere deep inside.

“I love the name,” I say after a little while. “Adelina Ingrid… it sounds elegant and strong.”

Placing a finger beneath my chin to lift my face to his, Tiero kisses me tenderly.

“I love it too. It’s settled then.”

Grinning goofily, I kiss him. We have a name for our daughter—I’m so excited.

“And on the off-chance we have a boy? What should we name him?” I ask, when I take a breather from kissing him. We better cover all bases.

“Every first-born son has always had Leandro as a middle name.”

“In honor of your great-great-grandfather. I remember you telling me about it.”

“He started la familia. But I want to show you how serious I am about choosing a different path for us. What I’m proposing will make my ancestors roll in their graves, but I want to name our firstborn son after our fathers.”

My heart skips a beat. He really is serious about this.

“I like the sound of Ciarán Stefano De Marco,” he says with a smile on his face.

My heart swells with love for this man. “My father’s name first?” Tiero nods.

Da meant the world to me. For my son to carry his name and let his memory live on… it brings back the damn tears.

“I love it! Thank you,” I sniffle.

And then we kiss again, because really, is there any better way to celebrate?
