“Dr. Agosti was positive that the fall didn’t harm our baby. Let’s focus on that. The obstetrician here is just going to confirm that, okay?”

Before I have time to even let out the breath I was holding, Tiero’s lips take mine. It’s not like the passionate kiss we shared last night, but one of support and understanding, telling me that no matter what, we’ll be facing this together.

The tenderness and love his eyes were brimming with transfer to this kiss; I feel it in every fiber.

We’re interrupted when the two doctors return and reluctantly pull apart.

“The orthopedic doctor and technician are waiting for you. Once the x-rays are done, we’ll do an ultrasound,” the doctor says. “This will help us assess the baby’s development and check for any potential issues.”

Tiero nods, his expression serious yet attentive. “And what about Ella’s cold hands and feet?”

The doctor examines my hands and then scribbles something down.

“It could be due to a few factors. We’ll run some tests to check iron levels and thyroid function. These can affect circulation and body temperature regulation.”

“And if there’s an issue?” I ask, chewing on my lower lip.

The doctor smiles reassuringly. “If we find any deficiencies, there are ways to address them. I’ll get a nurse to take your blood now, so we can get started on these tests.”

As the doctor leaves again to get a nurse, Tiero squeezes my shoulders in silent support. Turning to Dr. Agosti who’s still in the room, he asks, “Is everything in order? They’re covering every possible aspect?”

“They are. The donation Santino has wired to them is ensuring Miss O’Neil is receiving priority treatment. Still, it will be at least a few hours until we receive the blood results, and there’s likely a treatment afterward. We’re going to have to spend the night here.”

Tiero nods. “Make sure we have an appropriate room.”

“Of course.” With that he leaves.

“How big was the donation?” I ask, curious.

“No idea. Santino handled it. But you’re worth every cent.”

He kisses me until we’re once more interrupted. This time by a nurse rolling in a cart with everything she needs to take my blood. When she sees us so close together, she blushes and looks down.

Damn. Can’t a girl kiss her man in peace?

This place is turning out to be busier than a train station. I guess that’s what you get with VIP treatment.

My blood was taken, and now it’s a waiting game to find out what’s going on with my body.

On the way to the orthopedic doctor, I checked on Rhia, Claudette and Aiden in the waiting room and updated them on what’s happening. They weren’t alone, a few of Tiero’s men were waiting there with them.

Aiden was still distant and lost in thought. I wish there was something I could do to help him through this, but my focus has to be on the baby. Thankfully the girls are there—he’s in good hands with them, which eases my worry.

It seemed the waiting room was reserved solely for our party. This is only a small hospital, but a small buffet table with an assortment of finger foods and beverages graced one corner. No doubt due to Tiero’s over-generous donation.

Tiero and I too have the use of an exclusive room that has been upgraded to make it more inviting to be in. Vases of my favorite flowers occupy the available surfaces, bringing warmth and vibrancy to the space.

“You remembered I love lilies,” I say as I stare at the bouquet on my bedside table.

Tiero and I are lying on my bed together, my head on his chest and his arm protectively slung around me.

From the elbow down, my left arm is encased in a sturdy cast, which is resting on Tiero’s abdomen. The x-ray images revealed a fracture, and now I’m stuck with this plaster for six weeks. It already feels like an eternity. At least it’s my non-dominant arm. And, should I ever get attacked, I have a weapon right on me. The cast is so hard, I’m sure it would deliver a monster headache.

We’re now waiting for the obstetrician to do the ultrasound. She’s delivering a baby in another wing of this hospital and will come when she’s free.

“Of course. I remember everything about you,” Tiero says, kissing the top of my head.

I smile at that. I haven’t forgotten anything he’s ever told me either.
