“Lucida?” I ask, eyebrow raised.

“Yeah. Lucida is the brightest star in a constellation. That’s what you are in mine. You’re lighting everything up.”

Those warm fuzzies? They’re back with alarming speed.

The magnetic pull between us once again becomes an undeniable force, drawing us in with its irresistible allure. Words and logic no longer exist.

Eyes locked, a current of mutual desire surges through the air.

Resistance is futile. Am I ready to surrender to its captivating power?

Resist, resist, resist, the tiny voice of reason echoes faintly somewhere in the recesses of my mind.

I don’t want to.

Here is a man who just laid his heart bare for me. A man I want to give mine to in return.

The realization is startling. I truly want to offer him the depths of my heart—Aiden deserves nothing less.

My pulse quickens. Racing to a crescendo, it seeks freedom from the confines of my chest. Tingling sensations course through my palms, a blend of nervous anticipation and exhilaration.

We stand on the precipice. The air crackles with hope and the whispers of unspoken desires.

Then, just as suddenly, the door swings open, revealing a figure who unwittingly shatters our moment with annoying regularity.

Claudette.

Startled, we disentangle from each other’s gaze, our connection lost.

Ade’s brows furrow in irritation, frustration clouding his handsome face.

“Why?” he groans. “Every time! Every single time!” He’s ready to bite off her head.

Claudette raises her hands in surrender. “Sorry,” she mumbles. “I just wanted to check in on Ella and bring you your breakfast. Miriam saved it for you.”

The lines on his forehead deepen. He’s ready to kill someone.

I, on the other hand, am relieved by the intrusion and the chance to regain some semblance of control amidst the whirlwind of feelings consuming me.

Disappointment lingers in Ade’s eyes. He’s starting to think his deep longing for me has no chance of being satisfied. My heart aches for him. And if I’m being honest, it aches for me too.

Claudette sets the plate piled with food on the table and with a heavy sigh, Ade rises and walks to the kitchenette to get a fork. Tension hangs heavy in the air.

Claudette really has an uncanny timing for turning up whenever Ade and I are on the brink of taking the next step, even if it’s as innocent as a kiss.

And she’s a big believer that nothing in life is a coincidence.

What if she’s an instrument of the universe? A reoccurring sign that despite my rampant desire for Aiden, I’m right to stay away?

But it’s getting so damn hard.

Are Aiden and I not meant to be?

No! That would suck. And why not?

He’s the kindest, sweetest man I’ve ever known. And not to forget, hot as hell. Protective, caring… a gentleman. But I bet in bed he’s anything but… He’d be like Tiero, taking charge and controlling everything.

Tiero.
