I freeze and hold my breath. Was that a moan? No, my mind is probably overtaken by memories again—but then, I hear it again. A goddamn moan, and it’s coming from behind the door.

Jacinta is touching herself just a few feet away from me, and the realization hits me with a wave of desire so strong it turns off my mind—because the next moment, I find myself plunging at the door. I hear a yelp, and it encourages my primal instincts to keep going, and after the next thrust, the door breaks open.

“What are you—Paolo?”

The panic in Jacinta’s voice shifts into surprise with one word, and when I look around the room, I find her in the middle of the bed with her eyes wide and her hands pressed to her lips. As soon as our eyes meet, Jacinta looks away, and I see the bright pink blooming on her cheeks. Goddamnit. I growl under my breath from the fire of arousal in my veins.

How is she so damn hot?

“Don’t you know how to knock?” Jacinta says in a poor attempt to sound bold, but her body betrays her. Her voice is breathy, her lips are bitten, and when she pushes her hands down as if trying to hide herself, it only makes my gaze follow the movement.

Her legs are naked, her panties are lying on the bed next to her, and my mouth waters when I see her hand sliding between her thighs as if she can’t stop herself from touching. She was probably close to her climax when I barged in, and the thought wipes the last remnants of my sanity.

I lunge toward her in a few wide steps, and Jacinta only has enough time to squeal before I throw her back on the bed and press my knee between her thighs. She tries to fight me, flailing her hands and tightening her thighs, but when I catch her wrists and press them against the bed, she gives up and looks at me.

“What are you doing?” Jacinta whispers, and I can see desire in the darkness of her eyes. Her thighs yield to me and move them apart, allowing my knee to press closer, and her obedience makes me heady.

“I’m taking what’s mine,” I murmur huskily and lean forward, pressing my lips to hers in a forced kiss.

Jacinta tries to purse her lips and shake her head to get rid of me, but I press closer—and her resilience melts with a sigh. She likes to fight me, but I can feel that she wants me. Her heat is pulsating with so much arousal that I can feel it even through my pants. God, what is she doing to me? I push my knee closer, rubbing her slowly, and Jacinta shivers in my arms.

She’s so damn close, and I grasp her wrists tighter, pushing my erection against her. Her body is begging for me to take her, and I can’t resist it, I have to—

Shit.

My phone buzzes in the pocket of my jeans, and I growl through gritted teeth and grab it, swaying my hand to toss it away. But my gaze catches Louis’ name on the screen, and it forces me to come back to my senses. God, what am I doing? We’re one step away from defeating the Mexicans, and here I am surrendering to their princess.

Nothing good will ever come out of this, so I force myself to pull back and away from Jacinta. My body is craving her warmth, and something in my chest is longing for her touch—but I push it all deeper inside and turn around. I avoid looking at her, not wanting to get under her spell again, but I can hear a confused noise escaping her lips.

“Paolo?”

Her voice is sweet and full of promise—but I refuse to follow it and close the door without a second glance.

When I arrive at the warehouse, Louis is already there, surrounded by a group of our men of lower ranks. I’m still not entirely myself, too wired up after the encounter with Jacinta, so when they all turn to greet me, I give them a quick look and clench my jaw.

“Why are you all here?” I bark at them. “The rats ambushed our men under our fucking nose, and you have nothing better to do than to chatter?”

They exchange quick glances, clearly not knowing what to do with themselves, and I can feel my blood boil. It’s because of such idiots we have to fight for our place now!

“Get out of here!”

The men disappear within a few seconds, and only Louis remains where he was, looking at me with a quirked eyebrow. “A bad day?”

“Don’t joke with me.” I glare at him and push my hands into my pockets, looking around. “Where did you find them?”

“On the other side of the fence, near the river.”

Louis gestures at the grid surrounding the territory of the warehouse, and I see dancing dots of flashlights. I guess Matteo is inspecting the murder scene. All three young men were shot there, right under the walls of our main location, and it’s too damn close to leave it as it is. If they had a sniper with them, they could’ve shot us without a blink of an eye—which makes me wonder why they didn’t.

“Are you sure it was them?” I turn to Louis, tensing up under a gust of cold wind. Autumn nights can be freezing so close to Lake Michigan.

“Yeah. They didn’t leave us guessing.” He holds out a small and wrinkled piece of paper, and I frown and glance at him before taking it.

“What’s this?”

But I understand as soon as I see crooked handwriting among the dried drops of blood.Give her back or we’ll hunt you down one by one.I clear my throat and nod. Yeah, that makes it quite clear. Below the threat, there’s an address—I guess, where we’re supposed to bring Jacinta—and time,9 pm. Wait, does it mean tonight?

“We found it between Dante’s teeth,” Louis replies in the meantime, and I can feel his gaze studying my reaction. “Paolo, it’s obvious that they know where Jacinta is. It’s our best chance to get a good—”
