“Which...You don’t understand…Let’s start with why Cormac O’Reilly is in my office and why he thinks he works here?”

“Great. Two questions I can answer at the same time. Because I hired him today.” He sat behind his desk.

“You hired him?” Her face flushed, and her eyes snapped with anger. “That was my job.” She poked her chest, drawing his attention to her breasts. “Mine.”

It’d take work to ease her out of this pique, but he did love a challenge. “And I told you to hire him.” He stood and walked over to her, taking her hands. “You need help. I’m tired of you working late every night and then collapsing into bed.”

“After sex. Don’t you dare try and say that I’m not upholding my part of the contract.”

“That’s not what I meant.” He cupped her face. Fuck, he was falling hard for her and it both terrified him and made him so freaking happy. “I want to spend time with you besides when we’re fucking but you’re always working.”

“Don’t.” She slapped his hand away. “Don’t try to make this into something it isn’t…something sweet. You told me I could pick my team.”

“I also told you to hire someone, and you haven’t. You keep putting it off.”

“I’m waiting.”

“On what? You can’t do this all on your own.”

“I know that.” She almost bristled.

“Then why are you so pissed? Mac is perfect. He’s young, enthusiastic, and an expert in programming artificial intelligence. The one part of Angel Face where you’re struggling. He can help.”

“I understand all that, but the point is, it was my job to hire my team, not yours. You had no right to do this. None.”

Harker winced slightly. He was pretty sure he was going to be sorry about this, but he really did like to win. “Ding. Ding. Ding. A point for me.”

CHAPTER 28: Alison

“You did this to win the bet?” Alison almost screamed.

“Not just to win the bet.” Harker reached for her, but she backed away.

She didn’t want him touching her…ever. “I can’t believe you…you did this. You broke the contract.”

“I did not break the contract.” His eyes hardened. “I’d never break the contract.”

“Never. Ha.” She threw up her hands. “You were going to break it on our wedding night when you went looking for sex.”

“I didn’t break the contract then and I didn’t break it now. It states that you can hire your team, but it doesn’t say that I can’t hire someone for your team. What’s not in the contract is as important as what is. I’m surprised your lawyer didn’t mention that.”

“Oh…well, he didn’t.” She hadn’t bothered to hire one.

“You didn’t hire one, did you?”

“It doesn’t matter. I understood the contract. I paid a lot of attention to the monogamy clause and even you have to admit that you almost broke that one.”

“Not even close.”

“You went to a sex club to have sex.” She rolled her eyes.

“That doesn’t violate the contract.”

“I suppose you’re right. Going and planning to have sex doesn’t but if you had…”

“Enough.” He held up his hand. “Please tell me why you believe I almost broke the contract today.”

“I don’t think it. You did break it because it’s my job to hire my team. By you hiring Mac, you’re the boss, not me.” Again, she hit her chest when she really wanted to hit him.
