The man was unbelievable. She was never talking to him again after what he’d said to her. She spun around and he was so close that she brushed against him. “I'm not going anywhere with you. Ever again.” His cologne surrounded her like when they were in bed, making her remember his face between her legs, his mouth doing the most delicious things to her body. She turned back toward the bar and inhaled deeply to clear her head.
“Please. I’m an idiot. A jackass.” He moved closer, his strong body pressing gently against her back.
She shifted forward away from him. Pissed off and horny was an explosive combination. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to hit him or jump him.
“I owe you a better apology.” His breath tickled her ear. “Please. Come back to the room with me. Just to talk.”
“Go away.”
“This is hard for me to admit.” He rested his face against the side of her head. “I was jealous. I’ve never been jealous. Not like this.”
“Not even with Merri,” she whispered, her anger slipping a notch.
“No.” His voice was rich and dark in her ear. “I was angry when she chose Tobias because I’d lost. I don’t like to lose but this…this was different.”
She swallowed the lump in her throat. “What you said…I didn’t deserve that.”
“I know.” Again that soft touch of his cheek against her head. “I’m sorry. This was all my fault.”
“You wanted to do this.” She turned toward him. “How did you want me to act? Did you want me to not enjoy it?”
“No.” He lifted his hand as if to touch her face but let it fall. “I wanted you to experience this. I want you to experience a lot of things. Pleasures you’ve never even imagined but…I didn’t expect to feel…so angry.” The person next to them moved away and he pushed to her side. “I've had threesomes before with…with women I’ve cared about and it was fine, but with you…I was furious when Ethan touched you anywhere. Even your hand.”
“Why?” Her heart did little flip-flops. She should be furious with him. She never allowed anyone to talk to her like he had but the sincerity and confusion in his face made her anger fade. She touched his cheek. “Why did it bother you.”
“I don’t know.” He leaned into her hand. “It was bad enough the way you looked at him when he took off his shirt but when I saw you holding him to your breast”—he took her hand and kissed the tips of her fingers—“I lost it. You should’ve been holding me. Touching me. Not him.”
“I want to be with you not Ethan.”
“Really? Even though I’m Gus Barker? Your grumpy, old boss.”
“Yes.” Alison’s anger fled completely at the uncertainty in his eyes.
“Let's go back to the room.” The vulnerability in his gaze heated to something hot and dark as he turned.
“Oh, no.” She pulled from his grasp. “You can't say those things and have me fall right back into your bed.” She touched his cheek. “I mean this Harker. If you ever do anything like that again, this is over.”
“I understand.” He put his hand over hers. “And I won’t. I didn’t even mean it when I said it. I was angry and”—he swallowed, his vulnerability flashing in his dark eyes again—“hurt because I thought you wanted him and not me.”
“Not an excuse.”
“I know.” He kissed her palm. “Let me make it up to you.” His lips touched her softly—hesitant, questioning.
She opened for him and his uncertainty exploded into desperate desire. He grasped her head, his tongue claiming her mouth as his. He pulled her against his hard chest. Her hands skimmed up his torso and then she pushed away, breaking the kiss.
“Let’s get a table and have a drink.” If she let this go any further, they’d be back in the suite and in bed.
“I’ll pour you anything you want in the room.”
“Not so fast. You have to earn the privilege of me going anywhere with you.”
“What do you want? Name it and it’s yours.”
“I want to spend the night hearing all about the Club. All the secrets and scandals in explicit detail.”
“Now, I really am in hell,” muttered Harker.
