“Okay.” She hung up and a few minutes later she stood in his doorway, pale and sad.

“Close the door behind you.”

Her face hardened as she shut the door. “I don’t have to have sex with you anymore. I’m pregnant. That part of the contract is done.”

“That's not why I asked you to close the door.” He kept his face impassive, refusing to let her see how badly she’d hurt him. He ached for her and not just his dick but him, his entire being wanted her. He missed talking to her, holding her. Hell, he slept on the floor by her room just to be near her and she couldn’t stand the thought of him touching her. He refused to believe that she meant it. She was just hurt and angry and he was going to fix that. “Please. Sit.”

“This had better be about business because otherwise I'm leaving.” She walked across the room and sat on the chair in front of his desk. “I have nothing to say to you about anything but work.”

He pulled a stack of papers from his desk drawer. His lawyer hadn’t been happy about this. “I had my lawyer revise the contract.”

“You did?” She was as wary of him as a bird was of a cat.

“Yes. I had him remove the monogamy addendum.”

“So what? I no longer care who you fuck.”

He ground his teeth together, counting to ten. “I also had him remove all the sections that can void the contract. This means no matter what you’ll get your part of the company and there’s nothing in the contract that’ll give me full custody of our child.”

“But I still have to stay here. With you.”

The derision that dripped from her tone sent memories of his childhood crashing over him. You. That word had been worse than the yelling or the cursing or even the beatings. That word could hold hatred and disgust like no other word he’d ever heard. “What do you want from me?”

“I want you to remove those clauses—”

“Done.” He tapped the papers.

“And I want you to let me move back to my mother’s house. You can see the baby as soon as it’s born. I promise.”

“I can't do that.” If he let her go, she’d never forgive him. He had to keep her here so he could make her understand why he’d put those things in the contract. “Anything else. Name it and I’ll do it.”

“No, you won’t. You’ll only do what you want. What’s best for Harker. You’ve always been like that. I just didn’t realize it because I didn’t know you were manipulating me.”

“Alison, we have to make this right between us. You can’t keep doing this. You’re not eating enough. It’s not good for the baby.”

“She’s fine.”

“Is it a she?”

“I don’t know. It’s too soon to tell but I think of it as a girl because she helped me.” Her lips turned up in a smug smirk, but her eyes were filled with pain. “Thanks to her, I never have to let you touch me again.”

“Well, she can’t be fine.” He ignored the pain her words caused. Her and their baby’s health were more important than his feelings. “She needs nourishment and you're not giving it to her.”

“The doctor said I’m healthy and so is the baby. Don't worry. I won’t do anything to jeopardize the health of my child.” She touched her stomach. “It’s not her fault her father is an ass.”

“Why didn’t you tell me you were going to see the doctor?”

“Why would I?”

“Because I'm the father. I have the right to be in my child’s life.”

“And you can be as soon as she’s born.”

“Now. I have a right to be part of her life now and that includes going to all the doctor appointments with you.”

“I don’t want you there. This baby is inside my body, and you have no right to that. None. Not anymore.”

“That's too bad because I'm the baby's father and I'm going to make sure that I'm at every appointment. I need to hear what the doctor says about my child’s health. I don’t want to get that information secondhand from you.”
