“What's wrong? Are you sick?” He stood and walked to the crib.

“No.” She shook her head but then laughed. “Maybe.”

“Shhh. She’s sleeping.” He placed the baby in the crib.

“Right.” Alison smiled softly at their daughter. “We should talk in the living room.” She turned and left.

He rested his hand on Irene’s stomach. His love for her would help him get through this conversation. He took a deep breath and left the room. He was already getting divorced; it couldn’t get any worse.

Alison stood by the couch, her back to him, her hands fidgeting at her sides.

“Are you sure you feel okay?”

“Yes.” She turned to face him. “I just read your letter. I didn’t see it earlier.”

Harker’s entire body froze, even his heart seemed to pause.

“I didn't look at the papers. Actually, I never picked them up until now. I didn’t want to touch them. I didn't know what to do.”

“You didn't? As in past tense?” His words were whisper soft as a tiny bit of hope fluttered to life in his heart, but he squashed it. His dreams had been shattered too many times.

“Yes. I wasn’t sure what it meant. Did you sign the papers because I wanted you to, or did you want a divorce?”

“Why would you think that?”

“Because you signed the divorce papers.”

“You've been telling me to sign them for weeks.”

“I know, but you always refused.”

“And you were pissed at me because of it.”

“Yeah.” She shrugged, smiling sheepishly. “But I was also kind of happy about it because it meant you still wanted me…us…this relationship, this marriage.”

That small spark of hope wouldn’t stay squashed. It sputtered and ignited in his heart. He still wasn’t sure, but Ethan was right. He had to put it all out there. “Alison, I’ll want you until the day I die.” He took a step toward her. “You are my home.” His voice cracked. “I've never known happiness until I found you. All those months before we married…when I couldn't touch you, I was content just to be with you. That's why I made you work so much. It wasn't only because I wanted to fuck your brains out but just being near you made me happy.”

She bit her lip, tears streaming down her cheeks as she walked toward him. She cupped his face in her hands. “I love you too, Harker. I’ll love you forever. Even when I’m mad at you, and”—she laughed—“that’s going to happen a lot, I’ll still love you.”

CHAPTER 30: Harker

Harker didn’t remember moving, but the next thing he knew Alison was in his arms, and he was kissing her like a starving man. His lips devoured hers, then moved to her neck as he grabbed her breasts and then her ass, pulling her close. He couldn’t get enough. Everything he'd ever wanted was being offered to him carte blanche, but he needed to slow down. He wanted to worship her, to show her how much he loved her.

He broke the kiss, his heart racing. “I love you.” His lips touched hers softly and then he kissed her forehead, holding her to him and feeling her—body and soul.

“I love you too.” Her hand slid between his legs, rubbing his cock.

He groaned. “Don’t.”

“What?” She pulled away from him, her eyes confused.

“No.” He yanked her back, so she pressed against him. “I want you to touch me. I really want you to touch me.” He kissed her, smiling. “But more than that…and that’s saying something…I want to take this slow.” His lips found hers again. “I want to make love to you.”

“Oh, Harker.” She touched his cheek as her other hand squeezed his dick. “Let’s do that next time. It’s been so long. Too long. I need you to fuck me.” She unbuttoned his pants and slid her hand inside, wrapping it around his cock. “Please. Fuck me. Now.”

“Whatever you want, my love.” He certainly wasn’t going to argue. He lifted her, pulling her against him as he stumbled to the couch.
