“Please.” She gave him a disgusted look. “I’ve seen you do that to Merri and Tobias a ton of times.”

“You have no idea what I was thinking and neither do they.”

“Come on.” She grinned. “It’ll be fun.”

He frowned. She was here with him instead of hiding like she’d been all day. Plus, earlier she’d approached him and had wanted to fuck. Maybe their ideas were similar.

“One. Two.” She paused. “Are you going to say what you think or are you a cheater?”

“You go first.”

“Write it down.” She pointed at the notepad on his desk.

“What?”

“Write down your idea. Then I’ll know what you were thinking.” She flicked one of the pens on his desk and it rolled toward him.

“It hurts that you don’t trust me.”

“I know you too well.”

“You do.” He grinned as he grabbed the pen and the notepad. She had the innate ability to make even the most mundane tasks fun. He scribbled his idea, in less graphic terms than what was in his head, on the notepad.

“Now, give it to me.” She held out her hand.

“Why?” He tore the sheet from the pad of paper and folded it.

“Because if my idea is better than yours, you’ll throw it away or eat it or something.”

“I won’t eat it.”

She wiggled her fingers. She was so damn cute—young, full of life and joy. She was everything he wasn’t and everything he wanted.

“No peeking.” He dropped the paper in her hand.

“Of course not.” She put it down on the desk by her water.

“Now, how do you think we should resolve our issue?” he asked.

“I think we should reconsider in vitro. It’s the perfect solution.”

“In vitro?” The word stabbed him in the heart. She still didn’t want to fuck him.

CHAPTER 31: Alison

“Uhm, yeah.” Now she wished she’d kept her big mouth shut because by Harker’s expression he had not been thinking of in vitro fertilization.

“No. Absolutely not.” His face grew even more dour than usual.

“Why not? It’d be perfect.”

“Perfect?” He snorted “How?”

“Ah…because you…we…” She refused to say he wouldn’t have to work up the desire to touch her. “I could be pregnant tomorrow. Okay. Probably not tomorrow but as soon as we have the procedure.”

“You could’ve been pregnant already.”

That again. Boy, she was tired of hearing about last night. “Why are you so against in vitro? All we’ve done is fight since we…put sex on the table.”
