“Really?” He tossed a warm cheese puff pastry into his mouth and chewed. “I didn’t see you do anything but drink.”

“Can we please not talk about last night. I apologized. Let’s move on.” She forced a smile.

“Easy for you to forget. You were drunk.”

“Yes, I was and I’m sorry. Again. Okay?”

He didn’t answer but he ate a bit of cheese and toasted apple.

“You aren’t perfect either and I’ve forgiven you.”

“Me? What did I do?”

She refused to admit that what he’d said that afternoon had bothered her. “You yell at me all the time. Harp on everything that I do.” She ate one of the pastries filled with broccoli and cheese.

“That’s work. That has nothing to do with this.”

“Fine. You left last night. On our wedding night.” She ate a carrot and some kind of dip that was fabulous.

“After you laughed at me.”

“I…” Okay. That’d been a bad point to bring up. “Enough. Please. We’re going to be living together for a long time. At least nine months.”

“Nine months from conception. At the rate we’re going it could take us years to get to that grand event.”

“Funny you should bring that up.” She took a bite of a tiny pita filled with something delicious.

“It’s not funny in any way. Not even a little.” He continued to eat. “Funny is the problem.”

“Not funny ha-ha, but funny in a coincidental way. I was just thinking about that and I know what will make us both happy.”

CHAPTER 30: Harker

“You do?” Harker knew exactly what would make him happy—bending her over his desk and fucking her. “Me too.”

“Really?” She popped a bit of orange tart into her mouth, her tongue dancing across her lips to get every last bit.

He had to stifle a groan. He wanted to clean her lips, to taste her everywhere but he wasn’t getting denied again. He’d take her to the Club and get her so horny she wouldn’t be able to do anything but whimper for his dick.

“I bet we both have the same thing in mind.” She smiled at him, a wide excited smile.

“I doubt that.” He couldn’t tear his eyes away from her mouth. Her pretty pink lips would look so fucking good wrapped around his dick.

“Oh, I don’t know. We do think the same things a lot of times.”

“For work? Yes, but this isn’t work.” This was pleasure, one hundred percent hot, sweaty, wet pleasure.

“But it is business. You said that yourself.”

He grabbed another piece of something from the plate to keep from admitting that it wasn’t only business to him. He’d be a fool to give her that weapon and he was never a fool.

“Why don’t we both say what we’re thinking at the count of three?”

“Let’s not,” he grumbled.

“Come on. If I go first and my idea is better than yours, you’ll steal it.”

“I would never do that.” He had to fight to keep the smirk from his face. She knew him so well.
