“I’m not little.” I sat up straight and touched my hair. “I’m almost eleven, you know.”

I looked around my little girl room and was embarrassed. My Barbie playhouse with pool sat in one corner, along with all my stuffies. My favorite, a fuzzy Ewok my brother had gotten me when I was in the hospital sat on my desk. Maybe the stuffies could stay. The daisy-flowered wallpaper had to go.

He smirked and nodded. “I know.” He pulled on one of my pigtails. The two braids weren’t helping my case.

“So, let me come to the party.” I pushed the cover down and swung my legs to the side. “I’ll be quiet. I’ll just sit in the corner and won’t say a word.”

Ricky caught them and pushed my legs back into the middle of the bed and covered me with the blanket. “Not tonight, LT.” He placed his hands on each foot and pulled me down the bed until I was flat on my back.

“Whoa.” I giggled. He tickled me and managed to tuck me in at the same time.

“Go to sleep, Little Tree.” He kissed the top of my head.

“Ricky?”

I lifted my head and peeked around Ricky and pouted.

The girl had returned. I think her name was Natalie. She stood inside of my door. Uninvited, I might add. She twirled a piece of blond hair around her finger and pushed her chest out. Like we couldn’t already see her boobs were too big for her body. “You coming?”

“Wait for me downstairs?” Ricky didn’t even turn to look at her.

“Come on, Ricky,” she whined. “Stop playing with the little girl and come play with me.”

Her voice took on a weird tone like the girls trying too hard in the movies to get a guy’s attention.

Ricky’s head dipped.

“He said, wait for him downstairs.” I sat up. “And, you do not have permission to enter my room.” I pointed to the door. “Leave.”

She rolled her eyes and turned around.

“Well said, Princess Little Tree.” Ricky nodded and pushed my shoulders down. He covered me with my blanket. “I don’t think we’ll have any more trouble with that troll.”

“Besides, you’d much rather play with me than her.” I yawned. “Right?”

“Every day, all day.” Ricky leaned in and kissed my cheek. “Go to sleep.”

He stood up.

“Wait.” I sat up. “Hugs.” I held my hands out straight and wiggled my fingers for him to return.

He smirked again and knelt on the bed and tackled me with a massive hug. He always gave great hugs. He lifted me off the bed, stood, swung me around, and dropped me back on the bed. I erupted in giggles.

“Shh.” He held a hand to his mouth, but he was chuckling too. He lifted the blanket and I almost rolled off the bed. He grabbed my foot to save me.

“Whoa, that was close.” I laughed and crawled back under the covers. He repeated the kiss. “Now go to bed.”

“Yes, sir.” I saluted him.

He stood up and headed toward the door.

“Sweet dreams, Little Tree,” he whispered and closed the door.

“Don’t have too much fun without me,” I yelled to the closed door.

He poked his head back in.

“It’s never much fun unless you’re around.”
