Hunter’s not marrying material. Or family material. I remind myself.

I want a partner in my life.

I’m strong and manage just fine on my own. But a partner would be the icing on the cake.

So why am I looking forward to seeing Hunter today when he’s not that guy?

I jerk open my closet.

Now... what to wear today?

Hunter likes blue on me…

Crap! Did I really just think that?

Red. I’m wearing red.

When I’m all done, I’m wearing a red sleeveless tunic and crop leggings with sandals—or sandal to be specific. My other shoe is the stupid boot thingy.

Regardless, my reflection looks pretty darn good.

A knock at the door has me hobble-crutching through the house.

“Hey, Katerina. Give me one more minute and I’ll be ready.”

She follows me into the house while I gather up my keys and purse.

“You’re moving pretty good.”

“Not bad. Another day on crutches, then I’m supposed to walk in this silly boot. I’ve got to get a PT appointment. One more thing I need to do…”

“I know, the day flies by.”

I shuffle toward her and jam my key in the rickety lock on the door. “So, the house inspector will be there at three?”

“Yes. And Hunter said he’s coming too.”

“Yeah, he said he would help us take a look around.”

She takes my purse so I can manage the crutches. “He’s great by the way.”

I grumble.

She laughs. “Ah ha. I know that sound. That’s the sound a woman makes when she likes someone and doesn’t want to.”

“I’m not admitting anything.”

“Yet, you two were hiking after looking at houses?”

I chuckle. “Don’t even bring that up. He made me mad and I took off and was on a different trail when everything went to hell.”

“Oh boy.”

Katerina lets the inspector in the house, and I hobble around the outside grinning like a fool.

I’m so enamored with the adorable charm of the yard that I didn’t even realize it was twenty minutes past when Hunter was supposed to show.

Katerina sticks her head out the back door. “Hey, come in here and have a look at a couple of things.”
