I nodded. “It’s been on the market for a while, and it’s not selling. It’s not an ideal location, but you wanted discreet with a kitchen. This is discreet with a kitchen.”

“I see.” Giacomo ran his hand across his jawline, looking at his brother. “What do you think?”

Ronan clapped, suddenly giddy. “I think we have a building.” He shook my hand, holding onto it longer than necessary. When Drake coughed, he let go, smirking.

I grinned, but the smile quickly fell when I looked up to meet Drake’s gaze. I looked out the window, noticing the sky had gotten even darker. It was going to rain—and soon. “That’s great news!” I cheered, the hairs on my arms standing on end. “I’ll send you the paperwork to put in an offer tonight. What do you say we get out of here before the rain hits?” My voice shook.

“Don’t have to tell me twice,” Ronan said, running his hand through his hair.

Giacomo rolled his eyes, tilting his head. “Don’t worry, princess. It won’t ruin your hair.” He punched his brother’s arm, earning a scowl.

Ronan moved for the stairs, making his way down and across the empty main area to the door. When he opened it, the air smelled like petrichor, and it felt thick with humidity. The clouds above us swirled, threatening to dump water on us at any moment.

“Thanks again, Amanda,” Giacomo said as Ronan waved and slid into the car. “We’ll keep our eyes peeled for the paperwork to come through.”

I nodded, and my chest swelled with joyful excitement. My first sale. Once Giacomo was in the car, and the Mercedes quietly purred to life, I turned around to lock the door. Drake stood in the doorway with his arms crossed. His mouth was a hard line, and I gulped.

“That went well I think!” I said with false confidence, reaching past him and locking the door. My mouth was dry as I moved to the lockbox to return the key and spin the dial. I took a deep breath and placed the confident smile back on my face before I turned around.

Drake stepped forward, still teeming. “Which part?” he asked when his chest met mine.

“What do you mean?” I took a step back, gasping when my back met the brick wall. A gust of wind rushed by, causing my hair to whip around us.

“I mean you were awfully flirty back there.” He was angry. Was he jealous?

I forced a quiet laugh that didn’t lighten the mood and then I swallowed it. “I was just trying to make the sale.”

Drake glared. “You’re selling a property, not a date with the agent.”

“I know that!” I snapped at him. My chest heaved, and when the first raindrop hit my cheek, I wiped it away. “I was just being friendly. Why are you acting so jealous?”

Another raindrop landed on Drake’s eyelash, and when he blinked, it rolled down his cheek. “Did you like them flirting with you?” I shook my head, and he dropped his forehead to mine. “Good. I didn’t like it either.”

“Why?” I asked, shivering when the rain started to fall more steadily.

He framed my face, sighing. “Because I want to be the only one you bat your eyes at like that.”

My heart skipped a beat, matching the uneven patter of the rain hitting the cement. “Are you always so possessive?” I asked him, and the rain fell harder.

He shook his head. “Not usually. You make me lose all reason.”

“It’s starting to rain,” I whispered, and then I swallowed.

Drake brushed his thumb over my cheek. “I don’t care.”

When he kissed me, the sky opened up and the rain flooded down. Water dripped from his lips when I parted mine, and his tongue slipped into my mouth. I hummed, inhaling the sweet warmth of his breath, and a sudden arousal pooled between my legs.

I shook and clung to Drake’s shirt. I could feel his muscles through the soaked fabric, and when he tightened his hold on me, his arms rippled. A deep growl rolled from his chest when I whimpered.

I shuddered when a breeze brushed past us, and goose bumps rose on my skin. “I hate the rain,” I whined against his lips.

He lifted me, wrapping my legs around his waist and carrying me to the car. “I don’t think I do anymore.”

Chapter twenty-seven

Drake

“Don’t you think you should wait until after the offer is submitted to open that?” I asked Amanda, nodding at the bottle of wine she held by the neck.
