Pressure built in my core like a spring, ready to burst and send me into a mindless cloud of ecstasy. My thighs clenched, and I lifted my hips to drive my finger deeper. Adding a second one, I curled them and moaned quietly when a rush of electricity curled my toes.

As I moved my hand, I slipped two fingers from the other hand into my mouth and sucked lightly. I swirled my tongue around them, remembering the soft but hard feeling of Logan’s cock against my lips. I hummed, slipping them completely into my mouth.

I rocked my hips, thrusting them forward into my hand while sliding my fingers in and out of my mouth. The way Logan’s eyes rolled back when he was about to come flashed in my mind, and I imagined the weight of his body on top of mine.

With a small gasp, I came. I arched my back off the bed, pressing my knees together and stilling the movement of my hands. My breath came in quick, shallow bursts, and I whimpered. The shaking in my legs slowed, but my skin still tingled. Everything felt like it would be sensitive to the touch, and I wanted to feel Logan run his hands up and down my spine like he had in his bed.

Once my breathing returned to normal, I dropped my legs back flat against the mattress and rolled onto my side. The bed next to me was cold and empty. It was always cold and empty. There was never anyone there, but it felt colder and emptier than usual.

If I come inside, I’m not leaving.

I curled my legs up beneath me, pulling my blankets up and around my shoulders. Hugging myself, I nuzzled into my pillow and took a deep breath. It lacked the warmth of his cologne and the musky scent of our sweat, but the cool fabric was comforting against my cheek.

Mumbling to myself, I closed my eyes. “We’re not just friends.”

Chapter 23

Logan

The light in the window was on when I pulled up in front of our apartment. I hoped Auston was distracted enough to ignore me walking in. There was no doubt in my mind that Ash would’ve let him know I took off to help someone. Did they know who it was?

Why did I care if they did?

I groaned, sticking my key in the lock and twisting. I opened the door and walked in, satisfied when I didn’t see Auston in the living room. Kicking off my wet shoes and tossing them into the corner, I snuck down the hallway towards my room. I smiled when I thought about Simone sneaking out the other night. It was like we were teenagers sneaking in and out of our parents’ houses.

Behind me, Auston cleared his throat and I jumped. “Fuck!” I clutched my chest and whipped around to face him.

“A bit jumpy?” He looked amused, crossing his arms and leaning against the wall to the kitchen.

“Long night,” I said, brushing it off and hoping he didn’t ask more questions.

He nodded slowly. “That’s what I heard. Ash said you ran out tonight. Everything okay with Simone?” He smirked, lifting an eyebrow.

“What does me leaving work have to do with Simone?”

“So that wasn’t Simone that called you and needed help?” He cocked his head. What did he know?

“Does it matter?” It told him everything he needed to know, and he laughed.

Auston shrugged. “Why did she call you?”

I rolled my eyes. “Next time, I’ll tell her to call you. Jesus.” The annoyance in my voice was forced, but it was thick. “I don’t know why she called me, okay? What was I supposed to do? Leave her on the side of the highway? It’s not like she has a lot of friends around here.” I mumbled the last part to myself, but he still heard it.

“I mean, you guys are acting an awful lot like friends now.”

My stomach flipped, but I rolled my eyes in an attempt to get rid of the certainty in his. “We tolerate each other. I wouldn’t call us friends.” I wouldn’t say that we’re not friends either.

“Mm-hmm,” Auston hummed, making his way to the couch and dropping down. “I’m going to play some games. You want to play?” He held up the extra controller.

Normally I’d take it without much thought, and we’d probably end up playing until some time in the middle of the night when neither of us could keep focused. I didn’t want to play, though. My mind was flashing back to Simone’s lips on mine in the rain and the look of disappointment that had crossed her lips after.

“Nah. I’m going to grab a shower and hit the hay.” I shrugged, even when Auston raised both of his eyebrows. “Don’t say a word.” I knew he had a smartass remark about the way I was getting ready to go to bed hours before I normally would—more likely a comment about the woman that was going to be on my mind when I did.

I slammed the bedroom door behind me harder than I’d intended to, aimlessly making my way into the bathroom and turning on the shower. The hiss of the water through the pipes caused goose bumps to rise on my skin in anticipation of the hot water that would surround me soon.

My clothes landed in a heap on the floor, but I held onto the sweatshirt that had been wrapped around Simone. She had shivered so hard, and no matter how tight she pulled the hoodie around her, she quivered. Feeling her shake in my arms had me willing to do anything to get her out of the cold, except for apparently not kissing her in the rain.

I should’ve sent her inside instead of kissing her. It wasn’t just a kiss. It was one of those kisses that we were going to think about for days. The kind that would make her dodge me at work.
