Chapter 32

Simone

The window whistled, and the wind blew a branch into the side of the apartment building, causing a thud to echo in my room. I jumped, my heart stalling and starting again in my chest. Tugging my knees up, I rested my cheek against the back of my hands. Tears I should’ve run out of puddled, dripping from the back of my hand and onto my jeans.

I took a deep breath, torn between wanting to scream and wanting to run away and never come back. Before I could decide to put on my shoes and run out, Emmy opened the door to my room and peeked in.

“Are you okay in here?” She had taken on a productive, almost sister-like role since I had gotten home from the bar earlier in the evening. Concern grew more prominent on her face with the more details I gave her. When I described the paint on the counter, she gave a shrill gasp.

I told you whore.

I cringed again, shaking my head to clear my mind. “I’m okay.” I tried to offer her a smile as if I didn’t have the red-painted words freshly imprinted on my mind.

Emmy shook her head, but she didn’t argue with me. “He’s here.”

“Who?” I jerked my head to let my gaze meet hers, already knowing the answer.

She stepped out of the way, and the door to my room opened wider. “Me.” He ran his eyes along me, as if scanning me for injuries he knew I didn’t have.

My mouth dried out when he walked into the room, but my nerves settled. I didn’t jump when another branch scraped against the siding, and my hands stopped shaking. “Hi,” I whispered.

“Are you okay?” He settled on my bed, comfortably placing his hand on my knee.

I stared, nodding slightly but looking away from him. “No.”

“Me either.” Logan grabbed my hands, tracing his fingers between mine. He pulled me to him, and when I fell against his chest, he closed his arms around me.

“You should’ve let him fire me.” I sniffled, and he stiffened.

He tightened his hold on me, nuzzling into the hair lying at my neck. “Not a chance in hell.” When I opened my mouth to respond, ready to tell him to let me move back to Detroit, he continued. “Don’t argue, Simone. We both go, or neither of us goes. Do you hear me?”

Logan cupped my chin, turning and lifting my head until my eyes were locked on his. I blinked, clearing the filter caused by the tears that threatened to build up. “Why did you change your mind?” I sucked my lip into my mouth after I asked, not sure I wanted the answer.

“I didn’t.” His expression was serious, and I furrowed my brow. “I still can’t stand you because you’re all I think about. But you are all that I think about, Simone, and I’ll be damned if I will miss you. You’re not going anywhere.”

I cried silently, staring at him. He leaned over my lap, pressing his lips to the tears on my cheeks. He followed the trail to my lips, kissing the corner lightly and darting his tongue out to catch a rogue tear. When he pressed his lips to mine, I whimpered and fell against him. His kiss was salty, and my tears were wet on his lip.

You’re not going anywhere.

He emphasized it again when he weaved his hand into my hair and cradled the back of my head, deepening the kiss. I moaned when he tugged at the roots, the small sting causing me to tilt my head back. It gave him control, and he hovered his mouth over mine. He nipped my bottom lip before drawing his tongue along it.

“I can’t let you go.” He sighed, sealing his mouth over mine.

I parted my lips, giving him the invitation to invade my mouth—giving him the control he wanted. He groaned when I whined.

When he guided me onto the mattress until my back was flat against it, I relaxed. His weight on top of me was comforting, and I let the swirling, fluttering feeling in my stomach take over. I gave into the shivers that danced on my arms, and I wrapped my arms around his back, pulling him down to me.

Logan explored my mouth with long, deep laps of his tongue, while he strummed his fingers from my neck to my shoulder and down to my chest. Our bodies parted so that the fabric separating us could be removed and tossed to the floor. I gnawed at the inside of my lip, placing my hands over my nipples and feeling them harden against my palms.

His eyes darkened, and he moved them from my hands over my tits down the curve of my stomach and to the wetness gathering between my legs. He licked his lips before he dropped to his knees and pressed his nose between my folds. Logan inhaled, and his loud, satisfied sigh made me press my thighs against his face.

He dragged his tongue in a slow lap along my pussy to where he circled my clit, and I arched my back. My legs shaking reminded me of the way they’d quivered in the storage closet, and when the static built in my core, his words came back to me.

Please don’t go, Simone.

I shrieked when he closed his mouth around my clit and sucked. I gripped his hair like it would stop me from flying from the bed. Shock waves traveled down my legs, ending where my toes curled.

Stay here. Be with me.
