He stands up from his chair, and we’re face to face. I feel him surrounding me—a fog wraps around me, thick and dangerous, while the thrills of excitement shoot through me.

“For someone afraid of so many things, you’re piquing up my curiosity like nothing else.”

He lifts his hand and trails a finger over my turtleneck. “It drives me insane thinking how your skin feels. How you taste.”

“Don’t change the subject,” I murmur. I can’t believe he’s touching me, and I want even more.

“What would you want in return for me to have you?”

He is presumptuous, cruel, and ignorant. Yet, I’m still here.

“That will never happen.”

“Why so sure?”

Why indeed? Because nothing in me remains unbothered by his presence.

“Tell me,” I demand.

He gives in as if he’s coming to terms with his inability to distract me. “I had a rough day, and an even rougher week, and it will probably stay like this for a while.”

Control. It’s so clear he craves it.

“Who took your control from you?” I ask.

He stiffens and his jaw clenches like all the times I’ve touched something in him. “I need to fuck.”

Crass. “Are you asking for permission?”

“What if I were?”

“What if I said no?”

Eyes locked, he smirks. I will never stop him if he wants to fuck. Good riddance. Still, something in me deflates, and I grip the edge of the desk.

I close my eyes to anchor myself.

“Kiss me.”

My eyes snap open, and I home in on his mouth; those sculpted, full lips are just one breath away from mine. I feel the near touch zapping through me. I wet my lips. Seconds pass maddeningly slow with whatever transpires between us—temptation, curiosity.

“After you just said you want to fuck someone else?”

“You implied that.”

“I would rather walk into a hospital than kiss you.”

His facial features twist with undiluted anger. Cameron grabs my elbow and drags me outside toward his car.

“What is wrong with you?” I yell, trying to keep up.

“We’re going to take a walk through the hospital.”

This time, I freeze. Everything inside of me shuts down as he pushes me inside his car.

“Please, don’t.”

“You shouldn’t have spewed that nonsense.”
