“Why don’t you have a golf cart?” she asks.

“Only the women have them. Why?”

“They’re kind of cool, and I want to explore more of the land.”

I pull my phone from my pocket and message one of my men. Get me a golf cart.

“You’ll get one.”

“What?!” she squeals, eyes lighting up, looking fucking adorable. Jumping from her chair, she hugs me from behind. I’d make every wish she’s ever had come true, just to see her so happy. She kisses my cheek and I snake my arm around her waist, dragging her to my lap.

“You know I could have bought myself a cart,” she sasses.

I graze my knuckles against her cheek. “I’m aware you’re a top-earning professional gamer. I’m sure there are few women who can say they can beat their men at games like mine can. But let me spoil you.”

A grin teases the corners of her lips. Holding her in my arms, contentment fills me, making everything lighter. I have to find out what truly happened to her. I have to keep her safe.

“Tell me what happened to you,” I say.

“A demand. Really?”

I shrug. “Well, you’re mine.”

“And you had to ruin it.”

She pushes herself off me. My mood darkens, anger spilling through me.

“It’s the truth.”

“The way you think you can possess me is astounding, but you can’t and won’t. You can’t just say things like that... it’s scary.”

Scary? A heavy weight plummets in my stomach. She will be fucking terrified of me after I’m done with my confessions. I don’t want to scare her off, but it’s too late for that. She won’t accept me, leaving me to take whatever she will grace me with.

I retire to my office. I’m going through some emails when one of my men comes inside and says, “Sir, the golf cart is in the driveway.”

Like the whipped idiot I am, I put everything on pause and push through my office door. Violet is outside, standing next to the cart. Her lips curl up in a bright smile. She’s so pure. For a sinner like me to be able to breathe the same air as her is a privilege.

“Hop in,” I tell her.

She does and pats the spot next to her. Nothing in me deserves her.

You’re going to ruin me, Violet.

I sit next to her and show her how to start the cart. Motion propels us forward before I can tell her to lightly take her foot off the brake pedal. My arm flies to her chest to hold her back. She giggles. “Oops.”

I shake my head as she tries in vain to look serious. This time, she listens until I finish explaining how the vehicle works. Then she takes off at the maximum speed—my little adrenaline junkie. The wind blows at the strands of her wig, and she grins during the entire short ride.

She sees the other women hopping into their carts, and she parks next to them. My heart melts when she whispers to me, “I can drive you back home and ask them to wait a few more minutes.”

“No, I’m fine. Go, have fun.”

With that, I hop out of the golf cart and stop in front of a smiling Alessandra. This woman has nagged me for years. I bet she enjoys seeing me unraveled. I pin her with a serious look. “Take care of her.”

“You don’t even have to say it.”

We both glance at Violet, talking animatedly with Aurora and Chiara.

“She seems better, Cam. What did you do?”
