Dom smiles gently and cups my cheek in his palm.

The difference between Zane and Dominic has never been more noticeable. Of the five of them, I believe they’re the most different—untrammeled pandemonium compared to carefully contained gravity. Everything Dom does is thought out and meticulous. Even his touches are carefully orchestrated. He’s calm, level-headed, and has an almost gentle countenance that is missing in the others.

A soft smile plays on his lips. “Zane’s right, you know.”

“That’s rare,” I tease…and then yip when Zane bites down on my earlobe in reprimand.

“I’m always right.” He pauses and then says, “But what am I right about this time?”

“A minute is too long.” Dom grins at Zane over my shoulder.

I feel rather than see Zane nod, his chin butting against my shoulder.

“Yup. Feels like an eternity. I practically wither away to dust, Ellie. Dust! And you can’t stab people when you’re dust. Well, I suppose you could, but it’ll be kind of weird, you know. And not the kinky type of weird, either. Just plain weird.”

“How would you stab someone as dust?” I wrinkle my brows and attempt to twist in Zane’s arms, but Dom’s grip on my face holds me still.

“All of the dust particles will transform into blades, obviously.” Zane huffs, as if I personally offended him with my question. If Zane wants to stab someone, he’ll find a way or die trying.

“This is the weirdest conversation I’ve heard in my life,” Beckett deadpans as he lowers his elbow onto Dom’s shoulder. He’s the tallest but leanest of all the guys, though I know from experience that he has defined abs and smooth lines beneath the sweaters he loves to wear so much.

And his strong, muscular forearms…

“Then you obviously haven’t been around us long,” I quip in reply to his comment, flashing him a happy smile.

Beckett’s lips twitch. “I don’t think it will ever be long enough, darling.”

Be still my heart.

And my ovaries.

I swear his dimples are poking holes in my libido.

A strange tension saturates the air at his proclamation, and I feel the weight of it on my shoulders. I begin to twitch in Zane’s arms as restless energy skitters just underneath my skin.

What would make this moment even better would be if Landon were to come closer…

And Ryker…

“All right.” Landon claps his hands together and steps into the living room, claiming Dom’s seat and crossing his legs over each other. He doesn’t bother to change out of his uniform as he loosens his tie and tosses it aside. “What were you guys all working on?”

Dominic, Beckett, and Zane were able to rearrange their schedules after winter break to have study hall last period. This allows them extra time to look over the information we have on POP and The Divine One. I, on the other hand, chose to use my second period study hall for music. Landon joins me most days, though he doesn’t know how to play an instrument to save his life. He mostly just watches me with those toe-curling, intense, metallic eyes of his.

“Dom, you first. Did you discover anything new to add to your murder board?” Landon waves his hand toward the chalkboard covered in pictures, articles, and haphazardly drawn lines connecting everything.

Dom’s jaw clenches as he moves to stand beside his best friend. “The next person who calls it a murder board will be stabbed in the dick.”

“Murder board,” I retort with a devious smirk.

Zane chuckles from where he’s still clinging to me, his lips caressing my neck and eliciting a fresh round of full-body tingles.

Dom’s eyes narrow. “Ellie…”

“Murder.” I lick my lips and smirk. Zane begins to walk us toward the couch, but I don’t take my eyes off Dominic as I say the last word. “Board.”

Zane collapses, taking me with him, and I shift to get comfortable in his lap.

Dominic’s eyes turn molten as he stares at me through his fringe of long, ebony lashes. “I may not stab your nonexistent dick, baby girl?—”
