It’s like a lightbulb goes off in my head and I remember her perfectly. “Yes! That’s where I remember seeing her.”

Jake was so freaked out that his teacher’s water broke in class that I had to go get him. Mara tagged along so she could tease him the entire way back to the dorm suite.

“So, maybe they are meeting because their classes are similar. Yoga and Pilates.” Her tone is hopeful.

That would be a good reason to meet, but that meeting wouldn’t take place in the cafe.

Shaking my head, I counter. “He said it wasn’t work related.”

She hmms for a few seconds. “Maybe it isn’t work related like he said. Maybe they are friends because their classrooms are so close to one another.”

Neither one of us believes that situation.

There’s no way that a man like Damien and a woman like her are platonic. Either one of them or both have feelings. Those feelings don’t have to be love. Based solely on their looks, I’d guess it was mainly lust, but I don’t know their past.

Mara and I stare at them through the glass window for a few more moments before she turns around and heads towards her car.

“Are you coming?”

With one last gaze towards the back corner, I am surprised to see Damien place his hand over hers in a comforting and loving manner.

I have to jog to catch up to Mara. “I think I am going to take a long stroll around the campus and try to clear my head a bit. Do you care to place my bags from the mall in my room when you get home?”

“Of course, I don’t mind! Are you okay? Do you want some company?” She looks worried.

“Nah, I’m good. My body is yearning for a walk. Plus, you have to get ready for the party.”

She raises an eyebrow that has me chuckling.

“The party isn’t as important as you, but, uh, really, you’re yearning for a walk?”

I shrug. “I guess I got used to walking a lot over spring break.”

Mara wraps her arms around my torso and gives me a tight squeeze. “Okay, well, enjoy your walk. Call or message if you need anything. I’m always here for you.”

“I know, and thank you for everything.”

“If you finish your walk before bedtime, you can come with me to the party. I’m sure a few drinks and hours of dancing will help.”

“I’ll think about it.”

“You do that because it’s our senior year, and we promised each other that we would put ourselves out there and meet new people.”

“Okay, fine. I’ll go to the party with you. I will be done with my walk no more than an hour from now. If I’m not, you have my permission to bombard me with calls and texts.”

Her grin widens. “Make sure you drink your coffee and eat your cupcake, too.”

“Okay, mom.” I roll my eyes and turn around as Mara’s laughter brings a small smile to my face.

Heading towards the lawn, I take a sip of the coffee.

It’s always great, but today has to be the best.

Did they add something different to it?

Or is it because I went nine days without this sugary drink?

I sit down on the bench that Mara and I occupied this morning and place my coffee beside me as I dig out my cupcake.
