Miss blonde.

She pauses in the doorway and puts her perfectly manicured hand on her hip.

“I think you’re wrong about him running late.” I whisper to Mara, who is looking at the teacher in disgust.

“Yeah, I hate to say it, but it looks like you are right. What is she even doing here? Doesn’t she have her own class right now?”

It is too much of a coincidence that she flirts with Damien and he touches her hand in a loving manner and they have meetings together, but now she is coming into his classroom when he isn’t here.

Something isn’t adding up.

She impatiently taps her foot on the floor. “Why aren’t you guys starting? You don’t need a professor here to tell you to unroll your mat and start stretching. This is all very basic and shouldn’t be hard to grasp.”

When no one moves, she adds, “Come on now, it isn’t rocket science.”

Only a few students unroll their yoga mats and start stretching.

She huffs. “If you can’t manage to unroll your mat in a timely manner, maybe you shouldn’t graduate after this semester.”

Her tone is bitchy and snobby, and I am thankful I didn’t choose her class because I’d be the only one to drop out or worse, fail.

Mara rolls her eyes beside me as we unroll our mats and start stretching. Some students pick up their bags and mats and walk past the teacher on their way out of the classroom.

Mara leans over to my mat and whispers, “Can they do that?”

I glance at the other professor before whispering back, “Technically, if a professor doesn’t show up after fifteen minutes, then class is canceled. So, yeah, they can leave, but it hasn’t been fifteen minutes, so it’s a gamble.”

“Well, it’s only been ten minutes.”

Mara looks back at the professor, who is still standing in the doorway before facing me. “You can try to call him and see if he answers.”

“Yeah, that’s a good idea.”

It’s not like I have anything to lose.

I grab my phone from under the towel and dial his number. It immediately goes to voicemail.

“He didn’t answer. I shouldn’t be surprised because he’s ignored me all day, but for a moment, I was hopeful.”

“Try calling him again. I know my phone has shit service in here sometimes.” She grabs her phone and shows me her lack of cell service.

We have the same service provider and similar phones, but my phone always has service.

“Hmm, that’s odd.” I say before hitting the redial button.

Once again, it goes straight to voicemail.

“I’ll try again after class. There’s no point in worrying about it now.” I mumble.

A couple of students roll up their mats and grab their bags from the lockers. Mara and I watch as they leave. I’m surprised the doorway is now empty.

Mara sits up and hmms for a moment. “I say we join them and leave. It’s clear he isn’t coming, and I have like a million other things that I can be doing right now.”

I wag my eyebrows in a suggestive manner, causing her to blush.

“I can’t do that right now.” She mumbles. “Let’s focus on your problem first. You should have a better signal outside, so let’s go.”

She rolls up her mat in record time before turning towards me. “You are really slow right now.”
