I really need to tell her the truth.

Graduation is close anyway, and maybe she can help me come up with a plan to outwit Jake.

I make a promise to myself to tell her after our yoga class while we walk back to the dorm.

Jake will still be in his class, so there is no chance that he can overhear us.

With my mind made up, I look back at my notebook and get started on the assignment. I don’t need to fall any further behind than I already am.

Chapter Eighteen

Immediately after Seth dismisses the class, twenty minutes early I might add, Mara pulls me towards the athletic building, and I know she is taking me to Damien’s classroom.

Damn it, why is she so strong-willed? Usually I love that about her, but not this morning.

“You look like a woman on a mission.” I tease, hoping to distract her long enough to slow her steps.

“I am a woman on a mission.” She deadpans, not saying more as she continues to drag me across the lawn.

Staring at her profile, I can see the determination in her eyes and immediately know what is going on.

Mara beat me to my own plan.

She’s ready for answers and she’s ready for them now.

Except she doesn’t give me a chance to explain what happened after yoga class like I had planned in my head.

I’m not ready to face Damien, her, or the truth. I was mentally preparing to talk to her after yoga.

After our muscles were loose and relaxed.

After I had a chance to gather my thoughts and figure out a way to tell her what happened with Jake without her flying off the handle.

Without her wanting to get revenge on my behalf.

I should have known she would do something like this. She is a problem solver, after all.

But I thought she would at least ask me for the answers, not Damien.

My brain screams. She did. Multiple times.

I kept brushing her off because I couldn’t tell her the truth. But now it looks like I have no choice. Both she and Damien will know the truth before class even starts.

Mara bangs open the classroom door and pulls me inside before closing the large door back.

Damien jumps up from his yoga mat where he was doing his morning workout routine. His expression is just as surprised as mine.

“We need to talk.” She says sternly.

Damien looks genuinely confused. “We need to talk?”

His gaze moves from me to Mara. “About what?”

Mara yells, not caring that she is yelling at a professor in a classroom. “How about how you kept stringing Shaela along just to rip her heart out!”

Keeping my gaze down, I am unable to look at either one of them. I really need to confess what really happened, but I can’t.

I can’t let Damien lose his job or his dreams for me or for our relationship. Jake won’t win the battle this easily.
