“Same for me, and after last night, I know I want to stay here. Damien wants me here, too, so that helps in my decision making.”

My heart beats faster as I remember him asking me what my plans were for my future. The way his eyes darkened and his voice lowered in almost a possessive way left me more turned on than a wet and soapy slip ‘n' slide.

“So, the two of you actually talked last night?”

I dab my lips with a moisturizer and try to control my pacing heart. “Well, yeah. We really needed to talk things out and get on the same page.”

“I’m surprised he didn’t just jump your bones all night.”

Her comment makes my face blush.

He did.

Multiple times.

She jumps off the bed, startling me. “Oh. My. God. You look guiltier than a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar.”

“Well, it’s not like we were celibate last night, but we did have several conversations about trust, honesty, and our futures.”

She heads over to my bedroom door. “I’m really happy for you, and I hope nothing like this ever happens again.”

“You and me both.” I say as I follow her out of my bedroom to the living room.

Jake is nowhere to be found.

Mara follows my gaze around the empty living room and kitchen. “I need to head to class early to talk to Seth. Do you need me to wait until you are ready to leave?”

“No, I’m fine. You can go ahead. I’ll catch up in a few minutes after I grab some breakfast.”

Jake walks into the living room with a frown on his face. Normally, I wouldn’t question his expressions, but over the past week, he has been smiling when he sees Mara and I.

Sure, I know it’s fake because of the blackmail, but Mara doesn’t.

Or didn’t until yesterday.

Jake doesn’t know that Mara knows, and that’s the way I want to keep it, so why the frown?

Did Jake overhear Mara say she needed to get to class to talk to Seth?

Fucking hell.

Does Jake know who Seth is?

Shit, Jake doesn’t look too happy. His eyes are narrowed at me as if he is trying to figure out if I told Mara the truth about the breakup.

I’m more worried about him finding out about Mara and Seth.

His gaze moves to Mara and his frown deepens.

Will he try to blackmail Mara the same way he did me?

Unlike yoga, English is graded based on assignments, quizzes, and tests, and I’m not sure the Dean will let that slide.

My heart constricts with pain and anger at the thought of Mara and me not graduating together.

There’s no way Mara will put up with Jake’s shit. She’d be the one to drag him to the Dean’s office and spill all the tea about the blackmail and who she and I are dating.

She ignores Jake’s angry glare and says, “I’ll see you in class.”
