Today is graduation day.

I should be getting ready for the commencement ceremony. Instead, I’m laying down on my bed staring at the ceiling while I try to pick which dress will be better.

My gaze flits between the two: short, black, and semi flowy with thin straps or knee length, blue, and flowy with a halter top.

This decision is making me nervous.

Why is it so hard to choose between the two?

Which one will Damien like better?

Which one will my parents like better?

Groaning, I throw my arm over my eyes. I can’t make this decision right now.

Loud ringing from my phone makes me jump.

With my heart beating fast, I sit up and answer. “Hello?”

A woman’s voice sounds from the other end, informing me she is the hiring manager for the big newspaper that is only a few blocks from campus.

Mara and I applied here last week and were immediately called in for an interview. Mara was way more optimistic about the interview than I was. I felt awkward at my interview, and I know it showed on my face.

To my surprise, the newspaper hiring manager offers me an entry level job starting out as a fact checker and entry proofreader with the ability to start writing my own articles after the sixty day probationary period.

She says the start date is in two weeks to give me time to move off campus and get ready to work.

I grab the notepad from my desk and write down the information before saying, “Thank you so much. I look forward to seeing you again in a couple of weeks.”

After she disconnects the call, I plop back down on my mattress with a giant grin on my face.

Mara bounds into my room, not bothering to knock.

She is wearing the same short, black, semi flowy dress that I have been debating on wearing myself.

“You’re not dressed yet? Wear the black one and be my twin!”

She takes the black dress off the hanger and tosses it at me.

Deciding to bring her into my good mood, I tell her about the job offer. “I got an entry level job at the paper.”

I hope she isn’t mad that I accepted the job without her.

“Me too!” Mara exclaims.

Wait, what?

They hired both of us?

“No way!” I jump up and pull her into a hug before sitting back on my bed.

She nods her head enthusiastically. “Yep, they loved both of us and decided to take us both! I heard you on the phone and wanted to wait. I told you years ago that you’re stuck with me and that includes working for the same paper.”

“Sure, the entry level pay isn’t much, but we are just starting our careers and you can choose to live at home rent free. Damien wants me to live with him.”

I already told him I plan on paying for my part of rent, utilities, and groceries.

She sits on my bed next to me. “Aww, that is seriously so sweet. You guys are so cute together. I’m happy things have worked out for you.”
