“I got you.” He smiled up at me.

Chapter Eight

Henley

“Devlyn. Do you want any more soup?” I asked from her small kitchen as I turned off the burner. Reaching for the lid, I placed it on top of the pot of chicken soup I made.

“No. I’m full.”

Grabbing a rag, I wiped down all surfaces.

I’d been here for three hours already and in that time, I’d cleaned her apartment from top to bottom. Thoroughly sterilizing everything using Lysol or bleach, including every door, window, and surface. Devlyn kept a pretty clean apartment, but I knew she didn’t really do deep cleaning like she needed to.

Throwing the rag in the hamper, I walked back into the living room to find my sister lying on the couch.

God, I really felt for her.

This cold was kicking her ass.

Taking a seat in her overstuffed chair, I looked at her. “Maybe you should start taking vitamins to help boost your immunities.”

“I already do,” she muttered, before sneezing into a tissue. “It’s just a cold, Hen. That’s all. Thank you for cleaning this place.”

“It’s no problem.”

“I went to see King yesterday,” she whispered, looking slyly at me.

“Why?”

Devlyn shrugged her shoulders.

“Devlyn?”

Huffing, she sighed, sitting up. “Fine. I asked him to help you with the mayor.”

“Dev,” I groaned. “I said I would take care of it. Besides, King is a busy man. He just got married. He doesn’t need to be bothered with my drama.”

My sister chuckled. “Got that right. I saw Bailey before the wedding and that woman was madder than a hornet. I was walking by her shop when something hit the window. When I looked in, I saw several people hiding behind her receptionist’s desk, as Bailey threw paper towels and other items at them.”

I chuckled at that.

Though I’d never met the woman, I’d heard stories about the new tattoo artist. From what I knew, she was a handful.

While I knew my sister’s heart was in the right place, I wished she would have let me handle this. I loved my big sister. Loved how protective she was of me, but she couldn’t protect me all the time.

“What did King say?”

“He is going to have a brother stop by and make sure the mayor keeps his hands to himself. He won’t cause a problem.”

I chuckled at that. “You sure about that? Because I’ve seen what some of those brothers do when they think someone isn’t being nice.”

“Good men.” Devlyn winked. “All of them.”

“Really? Then how come you haven’t dated any of them?”

Devlyn laughed. “Because they are too much man for me. I like a strong alpha male like any other woman, but those men are alpha to the max. I’d go crazy and take them with me.”

“You just like wussy-boys that you can boss around.”
