“Cameron!” Skylar rushed over, trying to shush her brother.

Could have told her nothing would shut the brat up. Not even a ball gag and duct tape could do that. The brat would still talk.

“Oh, hi, Scribe,” Skylar smiled at me.

“Sky,” I groaned, glaring at the interfering urchin. “What brings you two to the library?”

“Cameron needed to check out a book for a school project,” the sweet woman advised as her eyes landed on Henley before smiling. “Hello. I’m Skylar, Cameron’s sister.”

“Henley Never,” she whispered shyly.

My woman.

The second those words filtered into my head I stopped short.

My woman?

Where in the hell did that thought come from?

“You’re the woman who gave Cameron cookies, right? With the pet rat. He wouldn’t stop talking about his new friend.”

“That was nice of him. He’s a sweet kid.”

Skylar laughed. “I don’t know about sweet, but he’s a handful for sure. I hope he didn’t bother you too much.”

“Not at all. I loved our conversation,” Henley said, before kneeling to address Cameron. “And how was your day at school, young prince?”

“It was okay.” Cameron shrugged his little shoulders.

Narrowing my eyes, I asked, “Teacher still giving you a hard time, bud?”

“Yeah. But sissy and Pyro said they would talk to him.”

“Henley, can I come visit Apollo? I found a book on rats. They are very smart rodents. I have an idea of how to help him communicate,” Cameron asked as Henley smiled.

“I would love the company. As long as it’s okay with your sister.”

“Oh, Sky won’t mind. She’s been busy with Pyro trying to make a baby.”

“CAMERON!”

I lost it and doubled over laughing.

“How are babies made, Henley? I can’t find a book on how to make them. I know Sarah has three of them in her belly, but no one will tell me how they got in there.”

Picking the cock-blocking brat up, I handed him over to his sister. “Oh look, I see Pyro waiting for you two. Better go check out before he tears this place apart for the answer, Skylar.”

Flummoxed, Pyro’s woman nodded as she hastily guided her brother away, quietly chastising him.

Turning back to Henley, who was covering her smile, I sighed.

“Sorry about that. Kid has no filter.”

“He’s very inquisitive.”

“You have no idea.”

I couldn’t get the words out of my head.
