“I can give you that.”

Freyja grinned mischievously. “So can I.”

“And we’ll help,” Phoebe and Athena added.

Concerned, I asked, “Are you sure you can handle them?”

Bailey grinned wickedly. “Oh, trust me. Those band of misfits won’t know what hit them.”

“Sis, are you absolutely sure?” Devlyn asked, holding my hand as Dr. Powell got everything ready. When we left the clubhouse, I had Devlyn call my optometrist and explain everything. Despite feeling genuinely outraged on my behalf, he readily agreed to meet us at his office in town.

“I’m sure, Dev. I’m tired of hiding from life. I need to do this.”

“Alright.” My sister sighed. “But you are still my baby sister. Anyone fucks with you I am still going to be standing beside you, ready to rip into someone’s ass.”

“Us too.” Bailey smirked, leaning against the wall.

“Alright, Devlyn. While I am all for woman power, I’m going to need you all to leave and let this old man do his job,” Dr. Powell instructed.

As she got up to leave, I reached for her hand. “Thank you for everything, Devlyn. I know I don’t say it often, but you are the best big sister I could have ever asked for.”

Kissing my cheek, she whispered. “We’re Nevers. Always will be, and no one ever fucks with a Never.”

With Devlyn gone, Dr. Powell asked, “You ready for this, Henley?”

“Ready as I’ll ever be.”

“Then let’s get started.”

Not even twenty minutes later, it was done.

Frank was right.

It didn’t hurt one bit.

With both my eyes covered with some kind of plastic shield, I was completely blind until my eyes healed, and totally dependent on my sister, who thought I looked like a preying mantis with its enormous eyes. I was told that the plastic shields could come off tomorrow, but then I would need to wear a specialized pair of sunglasses. Also, Dr. Powell ordered me to use the eye drops he prescribed.

Now, all I needed to do was rest and wait for the magic to happen.

Laughing, Devlyn gasped for air. “It’s not that hard, Hen. It’s only steps!”

“You try walking without seeing shit and see how you fair!”

“Come on, Helen Keller, only a couple more steps.”

“You said that five steps ago,” I grumbled. “And Hellen Keller wasn’t just blind. She was also deaf. Didn’t you pay attention in school?”

“Nope. I was too busy checking out the boys.”

Listening to my sister laugh at my misery, I was seriously considering having my sister take me back to the clubhouse. While I knew she meant nothing by it, she was seriously annoying me. But the more I thought about it, I wasn’t ready to go back to the clubhouse. I knew the brothers were working overtime to find the fucknut who posted my private time with Scribe on the internet. I didn’t want to add to their plate. So, Bailey said Devlyn and I could use her small apartment above her tattoo shop while I recovered.

Once inside, Devlyn walked me over to the bed and I sighed as I laid down. Being completely blind was no fucking joke. Even though it was only temporary, not being able to see shit really fucked with my bearings.

“You want me to call him, so he doesn’t worry?”

“Not yet.” I moaned.

“He’s gonna find out eventually, Sis. Best rip the Band-Aid off now before he shows up.”
