“Dean told me that she is working for you now.”

“Temporarily helping. Yes,” I replied.

“I’m surprised she didn’t decide to come work at New Hope again,” Bennett stated. “She is very detail-oriented. I’ll have Alex reach out to her and see if she would like her old job back.”

I clenched my fist. “I said she was working for me,” I said firmly.

“Temporarily.”

I had no idea why I had even said that. She hadn’t told me she was leaving. I just assumed that she would only be able to work with me for so long before I got under her skin.

“Long term,” I replied.

“Well, if you change your mind, I’m sure we can find something for her here,” Bennett stated.

“It will be her choice, not mine,” I clarified.

“I’ll keep looking to see if anyone else has seen or heard from Trye.”

“Thanks. And please, don’t let anyone know that I asked you to do this,” I said.

“By anyone, you mean Ovi.”

Fuck you.

“I mean anyone.”So that Ovi doesn’t find out.

“Understood.”

I ended the call and picked up my laptop. There was nothing else I could do regarding Trye, but he was just one employee. I had seventy-five others who needed me to be at the top of my game. We might catch up on the orders, but I needed to ensure that new ones kept coming in. I already felt that things were slowing down. Being back in Tabiq full-time was taking its toll.

Not sure how much longer I can do this. But I can’t leave. Who is going to run things for me at the factory if I do?

Ovi was right. I missed having Trye’s help. I wish Almi was a suitable replacement, but he wasn’t. Neither was Ovi. I'm not sure where I was going to find one, but damn it, I needed to quickly.

I won’t have to worry if Ovi doesn’t want the job. If I don’t watch out, none of us will have one.

CHAPTER 12

Ovi

When I had told Niko I was going to rest, I never thought I’d sleep so long. I had actually slept better than I had in weeks. Not that I wanted to hit my head, but I needed the rest. If I hadn’t smelled food being cooked, I might still be in bed.

I cracked open my door and it sounded like Niko had everything under control. Might as well shower and put on clean clothes. Normally I enjoyed letting the hot water pound on my back and shoulders, but not this morning. If Niko decided to come and check on me, I didn’t want to be caught naked.

Showered and dressed, I slipped out of my room and headed for the kitchen. Thankfully, Niko was standing at the stove with his back to me, because for some ungodly reason, he wasn’t wearing his dress shirt. His shoulders were broad and muscular. I practically had to close my mouth with my hand so I wouldn’t be caught drooling.

My luck ran out and Niko turned around to find me staring at him. The view from the front was even more impressive. Desirerushed through my veins, and I couldn’t tear my eyes off him. He was...beautiful. God-like.

“I thought the smell of bacon cooking would wake you up,” he said.

The sight of your bare chest and rock-hard abs is what has me wide awake.

“It does smell good.” I couldn’t help it. I needed to know. “Is there a reason why you’re not wearing a shirt?”

He looked down and said, “Oh I forgot about that. I spilled some coffee on it earlier. I had to wash it and now it is on the clothesline outside drying. I didn’t realize that Almi was your next-door neighbor.”

I thought he knew where everyone lived, but evidently, he didn’t.
