“Maybe a little too much.” I had said so many harsh things to him. Questioned his motives regarding his company. Told him off when he fired my father.Oh yes. I am very outspoken. I’m shocked he hasn’t fired me yet. “I’ll try to tone it down a little bit.”

“Not on my account.”

“You’re my boss. I should never have spoken to you like that,” I said honestly.

“If you haven’t realized it yet, I wasn’t talking to you as your boss.”

“You weren’t?” I asked.

He shook his head. “When I said I cared, it wasn’t as your boss. It was purely personal.”

“Oh.”

“You’re not usually at a loss for words. I take it I’ve made you feel uncomfortable again. I’m sorry,” he stated.

“Yes. I mean, no, you don’t need to apologize. It’s just that...I wasn’t prepared for that.”Because I like you too, and never thought it was possible you would feel the same way.

“Neither was I.”

This changed everything. didn’t it? It wasn’t like we were doing anything improper that would make it awkward for me to continue working for him. He cared about me. I cared about him. As long as that was all it was, nothing should have to change. We could continue to move forward as we were. Very simple.

As soon as I looked into his eyes, I knew that wasn’t possible. It wasn’t his actions or feelings that were making me uncomfortable, it was my own. I liked him more than I should. More than I was ready to admit out loud.

If I was going to continue working for him, then I needed to get my emotions under control. The first thing I needed to do was stop gawking at his half-naked body. He could pretend as though he hadn’t noticed, but Niko didn’t miss much.

I needed to prove to him that I could be professional. “Why don’t I clean up and you and I can get back to work?” I suggested.

Niko nodded. “Sounds good.”

When he stood, his pecs flexed, and I got a flutter of need deep within me. Even work couldn’t distract me from all this. All I want to do is reach out and...touch him.

“You might want to check if your shirt is dry while I take care of things in here,” I suggested, not for his benefit, but for my own. I was used to tropical weather, but this was a very different kind of heat I was experiencing right now. It started from my core and wasn’t going to take much to ignite into an inferno.

“I’ll do that. And if you’re up to it later, maybe we can go into the office. There’s stuff there that needs to get done that we can’t do remotely.”

Yes!The faster I got him out of my home, the better. And working from the office meant being around other people. Now this felt normal. Business was easy for me to concentrate on.

As he was just about to walk past me, he stopped and was just standing there, looking down at me.

“Is there something else you wanted to say?” I asked.

He nodded. “I’m glad you’re okay, Ovi. I was worried.”

His words sounded sincere. “I was too worked up after you gave me the list of things that could be associated with a concussion,” I stated.

“I didn’t tell you to scare you. I was just stating the facts on how serious the situation could’ve been,” he explained.

“I know. Knowledge is power. But like I said, it was just a scratch from the heel of my shoe. Hardly even noticeable today. Might not even leave a scar.” I had verified that after my shower earlier.

Niko brought his hand up to the side of my face and gently stroked the area around the scrape. I twitched and he stopped, and quickly asked, “Did I hurt you?”

It wasn’t pain that I felt. “No,” I replied, not moving at all.

Niko continued to touch me. I know he was just examining my wound, but it felt so...intimate. My eyes closed. He had suchlarge hands yet touched me with such tenderness that I couldn’t help but melt towards him.

I wasn’t sure if he’d stepped closer to me, or if I had done so to him, but soon our bodies were pressed against each other, his hands cupping my face, and his lips connecting with mine.

Was this a dream? Did I have a concussion and I’m hallucinating? Could Niko really be kissing me?
