“I have a number. You should be able to reach Trye there.”

“Do you know where there is?” I questioned.

“I shouldn’t say,” he replied.

I was confused. “You can give me the number, but nothing more?”

“No. I wasn’t even sure about giving you that. But I spoke to him, and he said it was okay.”

Wait. He spoke to Trye?“I thought I told you I didn’t want anyone to know I was looking for him.”Not even Trye.

“I know what you said, but I did what needed to be done. Just know that when you ask something of me, I take what you say seriously and try my best to get it done. But there are always more moving parts in a situation than you can see.”

Now he was talking in riddles. I wasn’t going to get anything out of him. “Okay. Send me the number. I’ll call him later.”

“I thought you were anxious to speak to him,” Bennett stated.

“I am. But I have a feeling our conversation needs to take place in private.”

“I would suggest that as well. Let me know if you need anything further,” he said.

“Will do.”But I hope I won’t.

I ended the call and waited for his text message. Once Ovi was with me, I wouldn’t dare risk her seeing me communicate with Bennett. It would raise questions I wanted to avoid.

The number came through and I debated on whether to call Trye now and keep Ovi waiting or not. The problem was if I putit off, I would be distracted all night. Then again, depending on what I found out, it might ruin the night anyway.

What the fuck. Why did I answer the damn call?

Ovi was punctual. Just another quality of hers that I admired. If I called her and told her that I was running late, it would just give her the excuse to back out. I had no choice. I needed to wait till later tonight, or tomorrow, to call Trye.

I pulled into her driveway, and she was standing outside holding her purse. I laughed to myself.Don’t trust us being alone? Me neither, sweetheart. Dinner isn’t anywhere as appealing as you are.I didn’t even need to put the vehicle in park because she walked right over, opened the door, and climbed in.

“You must be starving,” I teased.

She gave me a puzzled look, then said, “We’ve both had a long day. I figured it was best to be on time in case you made reservations anywhere.”

I didn’t buy that, but it was a good try. Believable, if I didn’t see the look in her eyes. The only question left unanswered was, was it me she didn’t trust or herself? That kiss was amazing because she met me with as much if not more fire than I was putting out there. I could only imagine what she would be like as a lover.

“Niko, are we going anywhere or just sitting in my driveway?” she joked.

“Sorry. Got distracted.” As I put the SUV in reverse, I added, “It’s your fault.”

“Mine? Why?” she questioned.

“Blue is my favorite color. And that dress looks amazing on you,” I said honestly, as pulled onto the road.

She smiled and smoothed out her skirt. “Thank you. My mother made this dress for me. She was a seamstress before she got sick.”

I wanted to hear all about her life, the good times and the bad. It was my life that I didn’t want to speak about.

“I’m sure that dress means a lot to you,” I said.

“It does. Practically everything I own, she made for me. People used to tell her that she should open her own shop in town, but she wouldn’t. My mother had been raised in a time when women didn’t own shops or wanted to be out alone in town.”

Or alone anywhere in Tabiq.

“Times have changed.”
