Sixty more days of this. Yeah, I could handle that. But what I was going to do on day sixty-one?

How am I going to leave the man I’m falling in love with?

CHAPTER 19

Niko

Two weeks had passed since Ovi went for the testing. She said that she should have the results sometime today. I could barely focus on my computer screen. I knew she was going through the same thing. I had a meeting that I needed to go to, and I was sure Ovi could use a distraction right now.

Getting up from my desk I walked to her office. Unlike me, she was typing away on the keyboard. “Are you busy?” I asked.

“I’m just replying to a few emails. Customers are still trying to follow up on orders. I’m afraid that we are never going to be back on track.”

We? I like the sound of that.

Unfortunately, it was about work. “I talked to Almi about staffing issues. He knows a few people looking for work. I’m going to meet with them later today. Maybe getting a few people onboard will help. I just know the learning curve means we won’t see any real benefits for a couple of months.”

“I think proactive communication with the customers is helping, but you’re right, something else must be done.”

“Then maybe you want to join me for my meeting,” I suggested.

“What meeting?” she asked.

“I’m going to visit with Ibby.”

She smiled. “I heard he’s doing well.”

“Why don’t you come and see for yourself,” I suggested. “It will give you a chance to see if the family needs anything as well.”

“I’d like that. When are you going?”

“Now,” I said.

She chuckled. “So much for giving me any advance notice.” Ovi closed her laptop and asked, “What do you need me to bring?”

“Just your smile and positive energy,” I replied.

“Then I guess I’m ready.”

As we walked down the hallway, Almi approached. “I’m glad I caught you before you left. One of the machines has gone down. I can’t fix it. We need to bring in a mechanic.”

At least no one was hurt. It was just a machine. Of course, that meant another setback in production.

“How quickly do you think you can get someone here?” I asked.

“I’ll make the call now. Hopefully within a day or two,” Almi stated.

“Offer to double his pay if he can get out here and get it fixed today,” I said.

Almi nodded. “I’m sure he will rearrange his schedule for that. I’ll keep you posted.”

“Miss Mayas and I were just leaving for a meeting. If you need either of us for anything, then text me,” I instructed.

“Yes, sir.” Almi headed back to the factory floor.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to stay here in case there are any more issues?” she asked.

“No. I think we both need a little time away from this place. And I want you to hear what I have to say to Ibby,” I replied, ushering her out of the building.
